free moving steering wheel.
Wats up peoples. been on here for a good min. but never had a need to post anything. but i have been searchin on this form for a year now and had no luck with my problem. I have a 96civic ex. and ever now and again it causes a slight problem ever time it gets cold. the indicator stops working (it will click on but won't click off have to do it manually) thats not the big problem though. at the same time the steering wheel gets really free. real dangerous while going kinda fast. and handling sucks. could easly oversteer the damn car[:@]. neways. anybody that had this problem let me know. i am clueless and didn't want to go to a shop before i had a clue of what i am talking about. all fluids are good, checked and up to standards.
First, you've been searching for your problem for this long and just now post something? Dude, you gotta ask. We'll be happy to help and share our experience. Specially w/ a STEERING problem!!!
What indicator are you talkin' about?
And as to the steering problem...How fast are you going? You know the faster you go and quicker you launch, the less weight is gonna be on your front wheels and it'll feel like oversteer and it'll feel like you have a lot of play. Similar concept as hydroplaning...Your tires aren't firmly on the ground at ~50+mph being so light and such. Also, turn your car on and see how much play you have in your steering wheel. If it's a lot you may have a problem there too.

A good inspection would help. I would definatly not drive until its fixed cause stuff falling off is not a good thing, especially if there is something stripped or loose. And some of the bolts in the steering system aren't tightned much, the cotter pin holds them in place.
NOthing is falling off. I hope not anyways. anybody ever drive a old *** catty and can turn the steering with there pinky finger thats what it feels like. i can turn the steering with one finger. but that only happens when the clicker for the indicator light isn't working. and when the clicker isn't working the stearing wheel gets too free. i think this might be a tech problem but i was wondering if anybody here ever had the same thing happen to there honda. i don't have a problem lauching its just when the steering is that way coming in and out of trafic at like 60 65 or maybe faster kinda gets dangerous. again this problem don't stick around it comes and goes.
I do have that problem with the blinker switch now that I think of it. You're right. When it gets cold (for some ungodly reason) the blinker doesn't automatically click back to the neutral position when you straighten the steering wheel, and when it's like that, the steering wheel is looser. I think that's just cuz the blinker has something mechanical that is connected to the steering itself so that when you straighten the wheel it'll catch and return it to the center. I haven't had the time, or need, to tear the steering column apart to find the cause though. I'm assuming that you are having to return your blinker switch to the neutral position manually after you straighten your wheel out?
that is it exactly. its kinda worse for me cause my rims arn't balanced "well enough" and kinda shakes on the road a little at hi speeds. i am going to ask my uncle to tear that thing a part with me and find out what the hell is going on and get the wheels balanced at the same time.
yo to all my cousin just told me that the spring that runs the indicator might be loose or don't have enough tention, or it just might be broken. i was thinking of pulling it down but he said to take it to the dealer or something so they can have a look at it. i am still going to look at it to see what is going on. not going to mess with anything. just look.
