ok, this is my first post here and i need some help.. i have a 97 civic lx, and i just bought 18 inch rims with tires.. the back tires rub when i get on the gas (cause the car shifts weight to the back)..

i need some advice on how to make these rims work without scraping..

 

You may need a camber kit to get the correct camber going. Also you may still need to roll your fenders.

What exact size are you running? 205/18/40? is your car dropped if so how much?

Im running 205/17/40 and when i drop 1 inch ima be pretty close to rubbin...

 

I've got a similar problem.

I just installed 205/55/16 tires onto my dropped EX and it's touching the rear.
I'm thinking of installing oem rear strut & springs to raise it.
Any good ideas?

PS> I managed to pull it off w/ the front by taking out the front wheel-well plastic cover.
Not perfect but it worked for me v

 

You should always double check your tire sizes lesson learned. AllI can say is get a lower profile or raise your car a tad. We have people come into the shop all the time with big wheels and when we tell then they are gona rub they want them on anyways.I'm guessing your whole top of the tire rubs and not the side or anything when you get on the gas. Like I said Lower profile or a stiffer/taller suspension then whatever you have now.

 

its not just the tire size...wheel offset can play a big role.

i'm realizing that a camber kit will not correct the rear tire from sticking out like 1 cm...
soooooooooooo....
can the wheel offset be adjusted some how to "push" the tire in?

i don't know if i'm being overly creative but i'm hoping this is the case lol

 

Actually please some one correct me if im wrong but a camber kit WILL fix this exact issue. It will allow your whell to tuck in a tad when depressed. Again i may be mistaken but from the reading i have been doing over the last few months here that seems to be the case.

Again someone please correct me if im wrong.

 

i believe the camber will only fix the inward or outward lean of the tires to a certain degree...

 

Camber adjustments are only needed when a guy lowers a car. The camber then "changes" When lowered it goes negative. (top of the wheel in) When you drop a car, with the CORRECT sized wheel, you need to bring the camber out (the top of the tire) So, on stock height, with stock wheelsyou need NO camber adjustment. Lower the car, you get negative camber. correct the camber with an adjuster, WITH the wrong sized wheel .... you have sloved nothing.
