Im getting that dreaded popping sound again, its in my right front wheel. I have no idea on how to replace these things... and I certanly dont want to cough up $300 of labor for the crap too. Can anybody helpe me out on my '00 Civic?

 

I will do a DIY with pics to if I get some instuctions on how to do it.

they sell the entire hub witht he bearing for like 75 bucks...i replaced my front bearings and it cost me 116 for the bearings and like 50 to sendt he hubs to a machine shop for the press....its easy...all u have to do is take the caliper off..and take the rotor off...then take the spindle nut off..and the hub should pull off..then pop the new one on and reverse the process...

 

are you sure its the bearing? usually its the axles that cause popping.

 

and another thing on sacs statement...is it only when u turn or?....is it like 1 pop when u turn or constant clicking when u drive?...it could be the tierod ends..or any of the bushings if it pops once when u turn..,.just a thought

 

yeah, the best way to check the bearing is to grab the tire and shake it back and forth, you can see/feel the bearing moving if its got problems.

 

First thing to check: If it only clicks when you're turning, 99% of the time it's the CV joint, which implies replacing the axle. This is far more likely than the wheel bearing, especially on an '00. But yes, sacicons is right. Jack it up, lock the wheels, and give the tire a good shakin'. If you get copious amounts of play, it be the bearing. While the car is up, turn the wheels to the opposite side and have a look at the CV boot. If it's torn (or in more than one piece), CV joint. Usually, however, bad bearings will make a scraping/rubbing sound rather than a clicking/popping, and you'll notice some vibrations and **** at higher speeds.

 

It ticks and does a popping when I turn... sometimes during acceleration. Axle replacement sounds serious... at only 68,000 miles!?

 

yeah that sounds like low miles but under continuous heavy acceleration will tear the boot prematurely. i'm having that prob right now.
