Just ordered strut bars for the subie! UPDATE!

I just ordered some ebay front and rear upper strut bars for the impreza. Cant wait to get them on. Should be a MAJOR improvement. Im hoping that car is going to handle like a slot car now.

Will do! I really hope i can find another autoX before winter hits. I gotta test em out and see what all this auto cross rage is. And civicexracer do you just use painters tape for your number?

ya, usually they have the tape at events and u just snag the roll and give it back when ur done with it...i like using this stuff thats ment to write on glass with(not polish, its the stuff ur write "just married" with on the windows) but some regions dont like it and make u use tape.

Isn't the winter the best time to own an AWD car? Screw autocross, find an empty parking lot and put up a couple cones.

yes agent. This will be my first winter with it. I might head up to some ice races but im not sure yet. Butttt.....

The strut bars came today and i pretty much got F'd over. The front one doesnt clear the airbox so i cant mount it. Dont worry, it gets worse. The mounting points are mysteriously missing in the trunk. I guess I just assumed they would be there like on the honda. BUT NOOO!!!!! stupid fuji heavy industries has to make it difficult. I pull back the trunk lining and all thats there is metal! I will get some pictures up later tonight.

EDIT: here they are. I guess its the price you pay for going with cheap ebay stuff. When you can buy 2 bars for under $40 I suppose you cant expect perfect. If there is something I am missing in the pictures please point it out.

I have a feeling the rear mounts are under the rear parcel shelf and you're going to have to take half the damned car appart to get to um (was this way in my 02 intrepid and my ex's 98 saturn).........

On the front one all I can say is either mod the air box or get an intake :D..... that or you could try bending the mounting arms upwards a bit or placing washers between the towers and the mount plates but I don't feel safe with that idea....

Yeah i just talked to some guys in my subaru club and i have to remove the back seat to mount that one. Front one i might end up bending or using as a towel rack in my bathroom.

new intake for front one???

This may be a shocker to some but I am not going to spend hundreds for a new intake to get a $20 dollar strut bar to fit. I think i may just look into either making a spacer to raise it up or talking to the metal shop teacher at my highschool and fab some new brackets.

double post bla bla bla

But the rear bar is going to be a pretty large project. I need to remove the back seat and some other junk. Hopefully I can do this tomorrow. I will def post some pics up of the project. We will just have to wait and see about the front. Maybe i can just jam it in there. :D

I wasn't saying you had to get the intake, I was saying it's a good excuse ;) (and thirty bucks on ebay isn't really a major loss)

Frankly I'd try bending the risers just enought to bend the bracket to clear, then just adjuste the bar to fill the space so it won't shrink back down. Rear seat removals suck, but most of the time they can be done pretty speadily and it helps a hell of a lot to have a guide (ever one i've done I've searched out a guide first so I knew what was where and such). In the end strut bars are worth the time and effort, every car I've put them on (this is even with the cheapo ebay ones) has shown dramatic improvement and in the case of my ex's saturn made the car alot more stable even with the crappy tires on it.

Back one is in! I havent figured out what to do about the front yet. The back seat removal was no sweat. Took 10 mins by myself to get it out. I never did anything with my honda back seat but if it is like the subaru's it doesnt provide much weight reduction. The seat and all hardware maybe weighed 10 pounds no joke. I have some pics that I havent uploaded yet which include the accident pics. I will have them up soon. I went for a drive and there is a noticable difference. The rear end seems a lot more stable, and a lot less body roll.
