i live in southern cali also. i just have NRG coilover springs on stock struts.the ride for the most part is ok, but on some of these streets it's horrible. my girl always complains cause she has to hold her breastswhen we take my car. we found that it's better to be the driver.

if your getting the s-techs, and you have the money, i'd go ahead and get new struts. i like to get as much done while i have something off, in your case your suspension. but i know most people don't have a budget to do so (myself included)

important : if your gonna lower your car, i strongly advise that you look into camber kits. at least front camber kits, cause your rears can be fabricated.

Camber - is the inward or outward tilt of the wheel at the top, measured in degrees from true vertical. So when you lower your car, instead of your tiresbeing plumb (vertical),like | | (cheap illustration), they will look like / \, which will wear out the inner part of the tire. So a camber kit let's you adjust the camber so you can get your tiresplumb, thus, using the whole tire and not just the inner part. I lowered my car and didn't think about putting camber kits on and had major tire wear on just the inside. So I now have the Skunk2 front and rear camber kits.

usually below 2" you would want to get a camber kit for the front. for the rear you can do the "washer trick"

you put washers in the rear arm link, this pushes the top of the wheel out, creating a more positive camber. only use a couple, any more than that, you need extended bolts.
