You're gonna need a spring compressor and a Haynes or Chilton manual. It is outlined thoroughly there...Really, that manual is very valuable.

With 4G's-6G's, the springs are short enough that you won't need a compressor to replace them. Not sure about 7th though.

EDIT: Sorry about that; doesn't really apply to your car...

just be damn careful taking that nut off the top without a compressor on it. and i think that would spell disaster on a Macpherson strut. get a spring compressor, you can usually get one on a loaner program from a parts store for just a deposit that you get back.

yea, like everyone said don't try taking it off without a spring compressor. theres hundereds of pounds of force behind the spring so its not something to play with. even if you don't get hurt theres a really good chance you'll lose your hardware. once you get a spring compressor, they aren't hard to install (as long as the bolt isn't rusted in and the head snaps off, happened to me twice). theres really only 3 screws to take it out

The reason I said you don't need a compressor is that, in my experience, loosening the nut up 3 or 4 turns will release the springs, so there IS no pressure, and no risk of ****ing yourself up. However, don't take my word for it; newer springs probably won't have sagged as much, so you should have a spring compressor on hand.
