Default Spring Install

Hey Ya.... Imma bout to get my tein s tech but was just wondering what the going rate at mechanic shops is to install them? I have heard around $50 for each one....kinda pricey I think...
Is it something that one can do them selves?

yeah it is a fairly straightforward install, it should be pretty easy if you are somewhat mechanically inclined

i've heard its easy to install springs and that prolly the hardest thing to deal with is the spring compressor. do a good amount of research and get some friends to help u out, best if atleast 1 of them has done them before.

I'm just finishing up a spring/suspension replacement on my 94 Civic and would be more than happy to help you through it. Also, if you can give me your year/model of car I may be able to get you a manual and e-mail it to you to help you through it...

Also, as was previously stated the most difficult thing to do is the spring compressor, you can usually rent a decent one from an auto parts store, or pull your shocks/struts off and take them in with your new springs and get the new springs put on for a lot cheaper than having them do all the work... I've done mine a couple of times and got caught in a dire emergency once where I couldn't do it myself and had to pay to have it done. I paid $250.00 to have it done...

AAP lends tools for free...they just take a deposit, and doing springs is very easy

Yes it is very very easy that even a rookie can do it. Its pretty much common sense.

By the way, not taking the cap off before you tighten the spring compressor is also common sense...and if you don't do it...(death or serious injury can occur)

...make sure when you borrow the spring compressor, that it is aftermarket spring compatible. The "hooks" on the OEM compressor they gave me didn't fit into my aftermarket springs.

I wouldnt exactly call it a "straight forward easy install," but I think if you're fairly handy with a wrench you can handle it. Read through THIS THREAD to get an idea of a common problem you're likely to run into.

Good luck!!!
