Question tire size question.

what do you guys think about putting 195_40_r16 on 16X7 rims, a little bit of stretch, as far as handleing do you think it would be that bad?

I didn't even know that they made a 195/40 r16. The recommended tire size for a 16x7 is 205/40 R16. its a little wider than a 195 so it will give you more area contacting the pavement, which results in better grip and handling.

205/45/r16 should do fine in my mind.

What size are your original tires? For 96-00 Civics, 205/45/16s are good. I wouldn't go lower profile than that unless all the streets you drive on are glassy smooth,

no ek civics came stock with 16. the biggest stock size is 15 in rims which use 195/50 r15 tires.

The general rule of thumb for going to bigger wheel sizes is for every 1 inch bigger wheel diameter, raise the width by 10 and decrease the sidewall by 10.

so if stock is is 195/50 r 15, then 16's would use 205/40 r 16. and also the opposite is true. so 14's would be 185/60 r 14, and so forth.

I run a 205/40 r17 (wish I had done 16s) series tire and it is fairly rough, but it doesn't bother me so thats what I recommend. A lot of people feel that 45 is a little smoother, but will still be rough. the difference between the two is very small and will not affect your speedometer very much whichever one you decide to go with.

205/40 and 205/45 are the generally accepted sizes for a 16 in rim for ek civics.

the 205/40 is approximately 0.2 inches smaller of a diameter than a stock wheel which is about 1%. To put this in perspective this is less than the difference between a new tire and a bald tire. So 1% off is not a big deal.

the 205/45 is apporximately 0.6 inches bigger of a diameter than a stock wheel which is about 2.5 % bigger. This is also not a big difference and will not cause any problems.
