97 auto worries

got a 97 ex sedan with auto tranny. i was wondering if there is any problems associated with them and if there is any way to beef them up just in case they are weak

Well, if you beat the crap out of it, then you'll have a problem. Honda Automatics aren't the most forgiving. All you can do is take care of it and it should work fine for you.

my tranny has yet to exhibit any problems yet . it does shift hard but i understand that this is the nature of the beast. it is a little unsettling because i'm used to gm cars and trucks (forgive me everybody). but due to cash flow problems i must stick with the auto. if it gives out what manual would someone suggest replacement with?

I have the exact same car. I have 119,000 miles on it and have had no problems. I don't race it but I ddo drive aggressively.

RE: 97 auto worries

I have a 98 GMC Sierra with a 4L60E 4 speed auto in it. these transmissions are notorious for crapping out on people early, so far i have had great luck with it. 2 years ago i flushed the tranny in it and according to my dad it was the first time it's fluid had been changed. never had a problem since, it seemed to have cleaned it out real well and it shifted better. I should do it again.

The reason people advise not to do it is because older transmissions might have alot of the old clutch band material laying around in the fluid. once it is all flushed out there is very little left on the bands and it slips horrendously. this is a theory, and have yet to prove it right or wrong. But since you just recently swapped transmissions i think you should be alright.
