Default High RPMs Low Gear Ratio?

I have a 2000 Honda Civic Si. When I am in 5th gear my rpm gauge says 3100rpms and when im doin 75 its at like 4250. Why is it so high and is everybody else's like this too?? My car tops out at about 120. Keep in mind thats with 5 people in the car and a loaded cooler in the back!

My advice, try to top out your car with out the 5 people, and the cooler in the back. Thats atleast 600lbs of weight, say a person was to weigh 120lbs. Far as rpm's go, thats normal.

Or NOT TOP IT OUT W/5 PEOPLE IN THE CAR AT ALL!!! Keep it on the track! Enough preachin'...I think there was a thread on this or kind of like it...started by Low Red Si or someone.

Good news for you!!! There are no tracks around where I live. You expect people to drive 40 mins to just top your car out, and race some one? Not gonna happen. Its an unwinable battle, get the congress to pass a bill so theres a track in every town, and then see street racing decline!

Sorry, prolly shouldn't have quoted you directly 93...Closest track to me is 53 miles so I know what you mean. I just meant going 120 by youself is bad enough, but to have 5 people in it and have it leave pavement and roll prolly isn't the smartest. That's all.

When I topped out my stock 97 ex, I hit 123 at like 5200 RPM's Not enough power to get any higher than that, although I was on my way to denver will two tv's all my clothes, and a computer. Literally packed. Probably could have hit 130 maybe.

I agree on the general idea of going that fast is dangerous.

Thats pretty good. The fastest I ever managed to get my auto up to is 110 That was in 3d gear, 4th is absolutely useless unless you got torque.

I know what you mean guys it was a little foolish of me to do that at all. I was on kaskaskia island in ste genivieve MO and there is only one cop and he just lives there on it and they have a 5 mile straight stretch and only 10-12 people live there and its all flat farm land all around.
