Is it more convenient to swap transmissions, or buy another car?

Default Is it more convenient to swap transmissions, or buy another car?

I have an 07 Automatic, and I was thinking about converting it to an Si. Later, a friend of mine showed up with a 2000 si, and I loved it. Instead, I planned on saving for the 2000 si.

Now, Im re-thinking it, and I might do the EX-Si conversion afterall. Do any of you know how much it costs to convert an automatic to a manual? Know a good spot in LA? Should I get it done at the dealer?

I wanna go fully. From the interior to exterior. But if I'm looking at more than 5Gs, then Im gonna save to buy my friend's Si. All answers appreciated. Thanks.

Converting an '07 automatic EX to an Si is going to cost a TON of money. Completely not worth doing

well.. to your question. that all depends on these questions:
1. are you doing the job?
2.are you buying the parts off the streets or dealer?
3. do you have the time to do the job?

if you are doing this yourself and buying the parts off the street yourself and have the time go for it. You can find a tranny for 600 max on the street. And you will need to change the shift console--- not sure what you actually call it. and that should cost no more then 300 in good shape. and while your there I would make sure u put in a new clutch ect. Me and my boi vic did this to his 95.. took a automatic LS motor and used his B16 tranny. took us like 3hrs.... to save money i would say find someone to buy your old Auto tranny.. u mite get all your money back =) But if your car isent an SI you will eventually want one. I say save some money make your car as stock as possible(current car) put it in classified i seen a honda civic Si CHECK IT OUT

BUT FOR THE SAME PRICE YOU CAN BUY A GS-R

If he really means an '07 and not a '97 than there's a lot more to that than what you listed... R-series vs K-series and all... if he wants it si-spec.

Good catch.. I Figured OP meant 97 but wrote down 07... dnot know much about the 2006- and up models... I have a question... Are the new honda civic motors anything like the RSX motors? I have done work on those but only light work.

The Si motors - yes. They're K-series and so are RSXs. The R-series are still nowhere near K/B/H/F and even D series as far as after market support goes.
