well on my ride home from work this morning after night shift jumpin out to pass someone I got a whole lot of rpm with very little go, and now when I give to much gas the trend continues.....

so im thinkin clutch is obviously slipping (fack)
car has 230xxx km on it though so I guess its to be expected

anyways some questions, going through honda I think they said somethin like $730
which is much more then I want to spend
OEM clutch kits on ebay for my car i can find around 98 bucks
How hard is it to do a clutch i have a buddy who did his on his 240sx and said he'd help me out

am i gonna lose my car for more then a weekend i need it back for monday's work

would i be better off going through a shop

how much time do i have before the clutch goes completely?

Can I upgrade the clutch (eventually I do want to add more power and such anyways)
will the upgraded clutch hold up better, what kind of clutch do i get, how much more would I be spending....

OKAY, im aware that was probably to many questions and such but im stressin out, im low on cash insurance is comin due and i cant afford 700+ dollars right now!! and if I cant keep **** together the first thing to go is my car, cuz i gotta keep a roof over my head

You need to slightly raise the engine and then drop the transmission to access the clutch. My understanding is that the job is somewhat difficult. If your friend has experience and the proper tools, you may want to save some money and do the job yourself. Get your service manual at the link in my signature for the details.

Also call around to some local reputable mechanics with experience working on Hondas/Civics. The price will likely be considerably lower than Honda.

and flywheel should be resurfaced to? or new flywheel? (how much to resurface)

 

Unless you didn't like the stock clutch, go OEM.

I would recommend purchasing a new flywheel, again OEM.

 

well depending on the condition of the flywheel if it can be turned or not.... check out some autoparts store that turn rotors and drums they should be able to do flywheels also..... shouldnt be to much $$

and if you have a friend have him pull one axle while you pull the other axle and youll fly thru the swap! its really not difficult just time consuming!
main thing ive read is buy OEM bearings for the throw out bearing and pilot bearing. besides that the clutch is your choice.... best part about after replacing the clutch is you know how good it is.LOL i hate not knowing how good my clutch is on my dx... its just a ticking time bomb like WHEN WILL IT START SLIPPING

id say definatly save your money and have a friend help ya. as long as the clutch comes with the clutch alignment tool and you have a torque wrench and a few jack stands and maybe 2 jacks its not hard at all. tuffest part i had when pulling the whole motor/tranny was geting the 2 axles to seperate from the tranny!

 

aright thanks alot from the info, so head to honda to get the OEM bearings? I think I'll probably be taking this on asap but outa curiousity, Im drivin the car really easy now and it doesnt slip its only when shift hard or really jump on it, how much time would I have? If I can make it to another paycheck it'd be a better... I dont really wanna be callin CAA but hey thats what its for.. p.s addiction to bass love how ****s comin together on your dx its fun to watch

 

there is really no way to tell how much longer you have on the clutch.All you can do is try and drive it untill you have the cash. just keep babying it around. clutch is pretty easy to do if you've done any type of clutch replacement before. its pretty straight forward. i helped my buddy do one on his integra and it took us like 4 hours. replaced all bearings slave cylander and bleed the lines.

 

thanks. tho theirs really not much more to do on it. replace passenger axle, paint my other 2 steelies, retint, alarm instal-maybe try adding power locks, and paint of course. and ill pretty much be done with the car. im trying to keep it simple with just a few upgrades... ive thought about going big but... well i only need to go big on one civic.LOL there might be afew suprise upgrades but nothing great.

ya just baby it and just be easy on her for a while and hopefully it will last. ive never pushed a clutch to wear out yet so not sure how long it will last. but my dad has told me if you baby the clutch you can still get around for another week or two at least.

 

my 90 has had a slippin clutch for a year now.
Driving normal, it always grabs.
Gettin up on it, I slip. lol

Whats bad is I have the clutch kit.. Just too afraid to F it all up.

 

lol good to know my buddy just moved so now I dont have help I'm gonna call around and find some prices hopefully I'll be able to save quite a bit over the honda price
but yeah it doesnt slip when i drive easy and even going hard if im really careful with my shifts it wont so i'll just keep babying it for now
