Default PLEASE HELP ME

last night, im driving and my transmission starts to slip, would rev up to 4-5 rpms, catch, back and forth.. 5 minutes later, pull up to light, stop and then step on gas, nothing, revs up, goes now where... coast to side of road, turn car off, wait 20 minutes, try again... goes half *** about 3 more blocks, then stops again.. no drives work, reverse, d2, d3. check tranny oil, half full...add more, nothing..

no funny noises, no problems before this at all...
its a 2001, honda civic lx, 4 door, with 74,000 miles...

WHATS WRONG WITH IT! PLEASE HELP

Well, first off let me welcome you. Then I will have to ask, when did you check the tranny fluid? It has to be on and in park. From what you described it did sound like a lack of fluid would do that, but since you drove it like that for a while ther is a chance the tranny is damanged. I would say, turn on the car leave it in parking. Check the fluid. Add more until it is to the proper level. Then try again. If it doesn't work, then the tranny may have to be rebuilt/replaced. Now if it works, I would then try to see why the fluid went down so low to begin with. Good luck and keep us posted.

I had the same problem but I got it fixed before it got worse like yours. Apparently, it is a factory defect. The spider gear is trashed. I hate to tell ya... it costed me $2,300 to get the tranny fixed... sorry [X(]

Ouch,... I ended up getting a used tranny off e-bay for about$250. Even a rebuilt one was not that much. I was quoted anywhere from $800-1100. Of course that was for a manual not automatic and I did the install myself. However, I see automatics for about the same price. I know the 2001s are different and newer so there might not be too many out there, but I am sure they can be found used and in good shape. It just requires time and patients.

according to this:

ORIGINAL: angelgirl

no drives work, reverse, d2, d3.

it is an auto. A stick wouldn't have D's.
