Default Tranny slippage OBD code P0730

Okay 2001 Honda Civic LX 1.7
appeared fine occassional slipping periodically nothing to be alarmed about usually only up a incline of some serious degree but always made the mark.
the other day
Check engine light came on
defaulted to low gear only
Actron OBD II code is P0730 code incorrect gear ratio (malfunction) error?

The car slips when instart and slips when you press hard on the gas.. if you ease into the start it sometimes does not slip. Shift to LOw and it works fine then to D3 it slips again and of course D it slips even more,,,
After eraseing the codes it was fine it for a short time then it went into some form of low gear default then after driving it a while it will eventually kick the 'check engine' light on and default to low gears only.

Do the bands need to be tightened?
Is it a linkage problem?
Asensor or electrical switch need to be replaced
or
is this going to be a major or replacement transmission issue?

someone told me there is no pan to drop and/or screen or filter to replace on this model others told me to start there..
can this be done?
.. I wish the local garages were open today I am afraid I will be without a car for work come Monday..
as it sits. I know it may be something simple and if not taken care of it can result to a costly major repair... if I do not attend to the matter ASAP thank you in advance for your time and help...
I am open ot anyreasonable and logicalanswer thank you again..

Is your AT fluid by chance low?

Information in this picture and the one in the next post shows various probable causes based on the outcome of ATF clutch pressure tests.

the fluid level was fine.
I did check that when my son called to say he was stuck;
the engine light was on and he could not move the car.
I arrived about 45 minutes later and the first thing I checked was the level.
the fluid appeared light pink with slight gray edges when wiping a white paper towel .. no apparent 'burnt' smell, but not what I remember to be the 'true' smell of tranmission fluid.
sort of a pecular odor; not a solid smell of trans fluid as I recall it to smell.
I will try to review the diagrams included thank you and I will post back shortly..
The slipping to me is indicative of a bad trans.. but I know sometimes people can get lucky if there was no indication of warning that it was ready to break.. that it can be some freaky thing like a switch; just changing the fluid and screen and such and they can get going again without the major repair of a transmission...

this is hopeful thinking but I know sometimes whenI thought I was heading down that costly road ... a simple cheap thing fixed it before so I am hopeful that this will not be a costly thing, although I am prepared for the major blow of hearing "well, you need a new transmission..$$$$$"

thank you for your help
O BTW,
the first time the OBD was run it showed codes P0740 and P0730 when erased and reset the new codes coming up were only P0730... the P0740 indicates that the torque converter clutch circuit is malfunctioning,.,,,
dont know much about that, but the code is no longer present,.

thank you again for your help
I am a female who used to work on vehicles before the 90's and I can figure non sensor stuff out but with new sensors and modules on them it is way beyond me
I appreciate the help here..
thank you again

Yeah, I would also change the AT fluid -- there is some possibility that it would help.

By the way, there is additional information about performing the ATF pressure tests and replacing the various solenoids. I would post them if you feel the additional information would be helpful.

Good luck. I hope the ATF change leads to some improvements.

Any and All would be great!
I just edited the previous to indicate I am lost on the newer stuff and I am trying to teach my son, since I am disabled at this point and can only hope he understands whatI explain to him..

Sometimes male to female; and female to male translations become an issue.. LOL
Then you have the generation issues. and then the "not now; I'm busy" issues to deal with..
thank you so much for the fast reply and any help you can send. life is too short to be without a car these days,,, although it may save us some money... . LOL

The additional information is here and in the next two posts. Again, I hope repairs are not too expensive.
