Transmission
I had bougth a 1988 civic hatchback and when i got home I had looked in the hatch and there was a trans just sitting in the back. It has been sitting in my shed at the house and i was wopndering if anyone could help me out and trying to figure out what type of car the trans came out of.
first off there maybe a sticker on it where the engine code would be next to it on the block. if it says l3 its a 88-91. the tranny input shaft, if you look where the shaft goes to the pilot bearing, if it has 2 rings its a 90-91....1ring its a 89 and no ring is an 88. as far as telling between si/dx/hf/std i cant say without tearing into the tranny. this is just saying its a cable actuated tranny. also the 88 tranny which sometimes can be found in the 89 vehicles is a 20 spline tranny. most 89 and all 90-91 are 21 spline.
