Default transmission progress

Well most of you probably don't know, but my "new" car has been sitting trannyless for 5 weeks now. This friday we finally got around to putting the new flywheel and clutch in, and taking the transmission apart. Now I know that I need two mainshaft bearings and two differential bearings. (very funny noise coming from transmission took us here)

I must note that taking this tranny apart is a piece of cake and that more people should try and replace these things themselves. Hopefully this friday I will have the car up and running again.

Don't you usually rebuild the whole transmission instead of just changing a couple of bad components? How hard is setting backlash and such?

We inspected every part of the tranny and only the bearings were bad...nothing difficult, especially with the kind of instructions you can get from a mechanic...

only hard part about tearing down and rebuilding a tranny is shimming. the initial teardown is simple as cake.

I couldn't pass it up for $1000...all it needs is a little love. Plus I'll get the car the way I want it right away. Without putting things on the to do list. If only my wife didn't buy me them altezzas...
