Newbie on Engines
Hi Everybody! I am such a newb. [X(] Can somebody tell me what kind of engine the 2005 Civic Si has? I've been trying to read about it but I'm so confused now. I feel so stupid. [:@] What are EP, EP3, K20, K24, & etc? Please help. Thanks so much in advance for all the help.
Engine
Engine Code : K20A3
Type : In-line four, aluminum block and head
Valvetrain : DOHC, four valves per cylinder, i-VTEC variable valve timing
Displacement : 1998cc
Bore & Stroke : 86.0 mm x 86.0 mm
Compression Ratio : 9.8:1
Claimed Horsepower : 160 hp @ 6500 rpm
Claimed Torque : 132 lb-ft @ 5000 rpm
Redline : 6800 rpm
EP= Si/SiR. I think its a generation code. I know mine is an EG, 4th gens are EF, etc...
K20, K24 are engine codes. The letter gives some indication of the generation and style (cams) and the numbers are the displacement in liters. K20=2.0 liters, K24=2.4 liters.
I really dont' know the specifics of the letter designation. Perhaps someone else will have a little more insight.
All I really need to know is D, baby.

Oh I see it now on K20s, K24s, & EPs. That cleared a lot of things. Thanks so much.
I might be jumping into another topic here, but I'm looking into adding more hp on my 05 Civic Si. I've read so far that adding a cold air intake, upgrading my exhausts and headers, and adding a turbo or super will do the trick. I also read an article in an import tuner mag that swapping the K24 Cylinder head with a K20 cylinder head will also give more power but they say its hard & expensive. Thing is, this is going to be my commuter car and wll be driving it approx 3 hrs everyday. Wouldn't these upgrades give me trouble legally like when I take my smog test and all and increase my fuel consumption? Could you advise on what upgrades should I be avoiding and where I should concentrate on? [sm=hail.gif]
Thanks again!

Thanks a bunch. I was also thinking abt getting either a turbo or supercharger but wasnt really sure which would help better on mpg. But one of my buddies recomends the suprcharger coz turbos will affect the engine. Is that true? Most of the 3 hrs wll be on the freeway.
affect the engine how? because a supercharger will put more strain on the internals. since theyre both compressing air, they both make it harder for the engine to compress it more, putting more strain on the internals. a turbocharger wont affect the engine any more than a supercharger
