Default Fuel Filter and the Valve Cover...

Hey guys,

1990 Honda Civic DX

Did the premium service on my car, but ran into a few problems and now I've come to all of you:

- Accoing to the Hane's manual the Fuel Filter has, essentially, three screws going into it. Two top ones and t-shaped screw. They called it "special" in the guide. Anyhow... I can not get this sucker off... Help? P.s. The old filter is now partially bent and I've WD40ed the snot out of it...

- When removing the Valve Cover to replace the Gasket is it necessary to drain the Oil first? Also, how many bolts hold this bad-boy on on my '90 Civic? (I've removed four total thus far, one of which seems to hold a ground wire and together they form a rectangle pattern.

Thanks all.

-Jen.

Default RE: Fuel Filter and the Valve Cover...

I've never replaced the fuel filter on my 90 civic but i would recomend a prodect called p.b.gast, i think. It's also called liquid wrench. The stuff can break anything apart. Are you using sockets or open faced wrench? Also try adding on an extension to your socket wrench for more leverage.

-Valve cover: I replaced the valve cover on my car 2 days ago. There are 4 bolts on the top, you have to remove the ground bolt on the right front corner from the head. There's also a bolt on the left side towards the back that is holding the spark plug cable clip. You also have to remove the hose on the back left of the valve cover. It's tough because it's so short but just remove the clamps and use a towel and pliers and pull it off. When you install it you don't have to use any sealent or anything just put the new one on and set the cover back into place. You'll have to fit it under the hose but it's not hard. When you're putting on the crown bolts be careful! I just broke the front right corner bolt and it took honda 4 days and 3 wrong parts to get the right one. The tourqu specs in the manual is 7lbs per bolt. Sorry it's long but i hope i helped. anymore questions just ask.
