RE: whats the deal with over dive?
overdrive provides a 1 to 1 ratio between engine & trans (it means that the the tranny is turning at the same speed as the engine) it kicks in at about 50-60 mph
it also gives u better gas mileage

Actually Drive provides the "1:1" ratio. Overdrive is usually more like a "0.7:1" less then a 1:1 ratio.
First Gear would be something like "2.3:1"
Second gear would be somewhere around "1.5:1"
Third or Drive = "1:1"
Overdrive = "0.7:1"

overdrive is another gear unit that installs on the tailshaft of the transmission
and the driveshaft connects to the other end. it is a gear box either
with 1:1 gear ratio or 1:1.5 . They can be installed on any car but the
driveshaft will have to be shortened to accomodate the length of the
overdrive unit. better to buy it as an option. The purpose is lower rpm
at highway speed and much better gas milage on the highway.
on front drive cars this would be another gear inside the transmission.
