Ive found a Garrett T3 DIY Custom Turbo Kit for me car it comes with turbo manifold, turbo nd wastgate for $599 is this a good price nd could i run it on low boost say 6-7 psi on stock internals? my car is a 1995,1.5 coupe only 102bhp so want more power!

Is it a big job to do cause i was thinking of doin it me self.

thnx

with 6-7 psi, you should be safe, unless you got a lot of miles on the engine. You could be able to pull it off by yourself, but consider the fact that you will need to get all of the piping, the intercooler, and a downpipe. Downpipe could give you a decent amount of hassle, since you will have to modify your stock exhaust pipe to fit it (if you're going witha turbo, you should seriously consider changing your entire exhaust system.

Are you talking about those cheap kits on ebay? If so consider that they are anything but complete.

Thanx for the info its done 140k but its bin well looked after, regular oil changes etc just want some decent power outta it as it to slow nd cant afford to insure a b16a.

you should probably get some lower compression pistons just to be even more on the safe side.

what do you mean "insure a b16a"? you tell the insurance company you put mods on the car? i dont tell the insurance company anything. in fact, i haven't talked to them at all since i signed up for my policy.

the d15 has pretty low compression already, so you should be fine. for anything over 5 psi, use an intercooler, and dont go over 6-7.

what would you recomend for a d15 block with d16y8 head and intake mani...after i finish the head and intake swap i plan on saving to put forged rods and bigger pistons then turbo but would you recomend certian pistons or rods or anything eles?..and how much boost afte r do all that will i be safe runing?

when you get the pistons, make sure they will set the compression at what you want, as the head will raise it a bit. try to get about 9-9.5:1 for decent boost and driveable spool up. make sure you get forged pistons and rods. for budget rods, you can get b18 rods machined to fit. they should be good for about 300hp, and try to get them shotpeened when they are being machined.

If you are only going to be running 6 - 7 psi on an engine with 140k miles on it, 102hp, and without any type of engine management or boost contoller, then i would say scrap that idea. You will get some gains (i'm guessing anywhere from 30 - 60 hp), but it definetly wouldnt be worth all of the work. Instead I would go for some kind of engine swap, because you will have the same, if not more, horsepower than if you boosted, and you would still have the option of boosting to gain even more horsepower.

I have found that stock 4G civic engines actually make damn good sleeper engines. I have a friend who has a 90 standard HB (D15B1, 70hp/82 lb-ft. stock), and he runs 10 lbs. and a 40 shot on stock internals. The only thing he had to do was convert to MPFI (pretty simple). He runs 13's regularly, and it's a daily driver. The 4G D-series engines have really solid bottom ends for their size, since they have cast basket braces under the crank, so they are able to hold together pretty well.

The D15B8's rods are practically toothpicks. I don't know bout the D15B7 but I'm guessing that they are pretty much the same.

yeah, the b7 rods are tiny, but i had a 50 shot on them for a long time w/o problems. finally went down to an oil leak that fried a rod bearing.
