Well, I was wondering if it would be possible to tune a 2004 honda civic LX engine. i was thinking about getting a brand new K20 but if it possible to tune the stock engine with stroker kit, crankshaft, transmission, intake, exhaust, ecu, and maybe some camshaft work, id rather just modify it. Also i was looking for specifications on my engine and can't find any, if anyone knows where i could find some it will be appreciated.

Do you know a lot about engines "project h"?would it be more cost effective to buy a new one of just improve on the one i have?

 

Well for the amount of work that your considering doing to the engine, if your not planning on doing it yourself, then it may actually be cheep to get the K20 and swap it. but i would check around and get prices foro all the stuff and do the math before you do anything.

 

well a k20 engine is around 5600-6k before shipping, then you gotta install it and if your paying to get it put in that is going to cost you. Then you gotta buy the parts it needs to swap her, shift box and linkage ($350), axles ($400-$700), mounts (these are about $600), fuel system ($200) and more probly. So thats about 7200 without the things im missing and you doing the swap at home. Probly way under what it would be. Add in more parts and getting it done for you, your looking at 10k.

Im sure if you add up the cost of building your engine like you wanna it will be cheaper. Probly even if you throw a turbo on there it will be cheaper. I guess it just depends on how much power you want.

Having said that, you could just throw a B engine in there and have good hp with a few bolt ons for half the cost.

I take it that you need special tools and such to install an engine other than like a toolbox and prolly a small engine hoist to put it in correct?

 

very correct very correct you would need alot of special tools I just did an engine swap in my camaro and I can not list how many special tools I would need. and if you were going to build up your engine you would need alot more to do that because of all the mesauring.

 

how long did the engine swap take? what were the major tools that you needed?

 

well to rebuild the engine and to just put it in ( still in a little bit of progress) took me and my father about a whole summer but it could take roughly a mouth if we didnt just sit around some days. major tools sockets wrenches and stuff like that.
