Recently we had our local highschool challenge at the Maple Grove raceway, so I went down with a bunch of people from my old highschool to see what the car would run with the new tranny.

Wasn't very happy. Turns out the longer 2nd, although helping immensely with my 3rd gear shift, utterly destroyed my 1-2 shift and the car bogged terribly between that shift. For those that don't know, when dragracing tenths in the first 330 feet will cut a few tenths by the end. On average I was loosing .3-.4 tenths in the 330 and was only able to make up some of the lost ground. Not to mention I kept missing 2nd because the synchro is already ****ed.[:@]

Sooo, trial and error is the name of the game. I'm gonna try something different by going back to a stock 2nd and slapping in a shorter 3rd with the new motor next weekend. Should even out the trans a bit and now that I think about it... shorter gearing is faster no matter what way I look at it!

Anywho, sorry, video yes of course. 14.51 @ 101 was my best time of the day, it was also my first run. I didn't have a helmet (couldn't run anything faster than a 14.000) so I sandbagged the snot out of the launch (2.45 60' hahaha) and then gave it all it had. After the first runs the tracks traction went to hell and I just spun...

Ok Ok, movie I know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bQgQ7jaAqs

Unfortunately mommy and daddy bought him that car and the tranny is all fuxored up. I'm not sweating it too much, just kinda pissed me off that day lol.

Maple Grove is my favorite track to go to, nice and clean and out of the way, and the people are pretty friendly. :)

It's nerve racking the first time you get up there, my first time to the track was last year at this same event. I still am jittery as balls everytime I line the car up at the tree, hell on my 3rd run I missed 2nd because my hand just slipped right off the shift knob.[8D]

AOL did you used to live around the area or did you travel? There are a few car meets at the campground every year and I go down to the track on as many Grudge nights that I can. The track is a bit on the slow side because of the altitude but it's one of those places you can just go and have a great time at.

i'd drive over from CT, i think is was about a 5-6 hour drive , they have a VW show n go day every june or july, the campground was cool cause you can sit there & listen to all the car ripping down the track all day , something you dont hear at most campgrounds:D

Haha, yeah, burnout on street tires. Probably wasn't helping me at all, but I said ****it and just did it anyway. [8D]

As far as the tranny goes, I just bought an entire ZC trans for $200 JUST for the 3rd gear, lol. I'll probably sell the other gears on it, 2nd, 4th, and 5th. I'm just waiting for it to show up, but i'm going back to stock 2nd and using the shorter 3rd from the ZC trans.

Gotta play with it a bit, but I think this will be the ticket.
