Is there a maximum gauge wire you can use for hooking Subwoofers to your amp? Most people use 12 gauge, but can Iuse 8 gauge? If not, why?

ya you can use larger wires... it preaty much goes by current flow... but if your not pushing that much power its not to necesary....

So, it won't hurt anything, right?

Will it change the sound to have a thicker gauge wire? (12 gauge to 8 gauge for subs)

preaty low power... ive had to many problems from sony when it comes to anything upgrading from stock....
plus preaty much walmart brand... BUT its ok for beginers... gotta feed the need for bass somewhere...
but mostly to me they are just oversized and UGLY!

I would always use 4ga.Most people I know use 4-8 ga. depending on the wattage you are running. I have never seen a car system using 12 ga. power wire. Bigger NEVER hurts. Plus if you ever upgrade to a bigger amp, you already have the larger required wire.

ya he is talking about subwoofer wires... not the power and ground amplifier wires.
if so 4gauge would be WAY OVERKILL.LOL
