Mechanical Problems & Technical Chat - 2002 OEM Frt Brake replacement

Just a quick question;
I picked up a set of 45022-S5D-H00 pads from my dealership last night after becoming unable to cope with the squelling caused by aftermarket pads. There are a series of shims in the box with the pads. Are any of them needed for this model year? I assume these pads cover a wide model year range.

Go to hondaautomotiveparts dot com and look at the assembly drawing. It appears there should be 2 shims on the inside (piston side) pad and one on the outside.

Also be sure to get the squeaker springs in the right place (the leading edge of the pad as the car rolls forward). If you switch the pads left versus right the springs will be wrong and you'll have unnecessary squeaking. Learned that one the hard way. That may be the problem with the pads you have now.

What exactly is a "squeaker spring"? I have never heard that term before.

That is the hairpin bent piece of metal on the edge of the pad that is normally inactive. When the pad is almost worn out it will touch the rotor and cause loud but relatively harmless squeaking to remind the driver that it is time for some brake work. Some aftermarket pads don't have them.

if the shims you are talking about are the ones that go on the outside of the pads, then yes, use em. i have Raysbestos aftermarket pads on mine and have no squealing tho.

New pads corrected the problem, thx.
