General Civic Talk - octane booster...????>>>>*View Full Version : octane booster...????>>>>* ohbiskits 07-22-2004, 09:48 PM do you guys run octane boosters? do the help? do they hurt?...when should you run octane booster because ive been seeing different ones advertised in some of my import magazines and i started woundering NTX 07-22-2004, 10:10 PM Ive used the nos brand booster but unless your going to the track or racing for slips, it's money that could be better spent. ohbiskits 07-22-2004, 10:15 PM oh ok so for everyday driving and light to light its not gunna help that much? ahah yes i mess around with my little 1.5 liter dx motor...ha i raced a galant the other night and i had him in somewhere around the 8th mile but after that the little 1.5 liter couldnt handle it......lol sacicons 07-22-2004, 10:39 PM dont bother. the store bought octane boosters are a scam. it will say on the bottle that it raises octane up to 7 points. yeah, .1 .2 .3 .... thats right, .7, your dog piss CA 91 octane for 2.28 per gal, say, 6 gallons, so 13.68+ about 7.00 for the booster brings it up to about 3.35 per gallon, and it will be running a vicious 91.7 octane. go to sherwin-williams and buy a gallon of xylene(paint thinner), about an ounce of marvel mystery oil, and a few ounces of kerosene, mix it all together and it should bump a six gallon tank of gas to about 94-95 octane. you can mix this up to about 70-30 with gas. the booster itself is about 117 octane, for about 8-12 bucks a gallon, so figure out the ratios. BTW, on a NA honda, you will see very little(if any) difference with higher octane, unless you have really high compression, like over 11:1 ohbiskits 07-22-2004, 10:47 PM thanks, i know i have read the bottles at the store and it sounds likt he best thing in the world but i never got it because it sounded to good to be true....some of those additives and octane booster say like gain 25 hp andim like YEA Right i think it was an oil additive that said it lowers oil temp up to 40 degrees or sumthing like that polo708 07-23-2004, 12:15 PM ORIGINAL: sacicons dont bother. go to sherwin-williams and buy a gallon of xylene(paint thinner), about an ounce of marvel mystery oil, and a few ounces of kerosene, mix it all together and it should bump a six gallon tank of gas to about 94-95 octane. you can mix this up to about 70-30 with gas. the booster itself is about 117 octane, for about 8-12 bucks a gallon, so figure out the ratios. About $8 for 1 1/2 liters. Your 4-banger is made to run on 87-89 octane, so your wasting your money if you dont have any extreme mods. ohbiskits 07-23-2004, 01:35 PM thanks guys that answerd it...dont plan on using anything until the new moter and the turbo sacicons 07-23-2004, 07:04 PM if you use the toulene or xylene, be sure to pour in a couple of ounces of MMO, the gasoline comes out of the pump with additives in it to protect the motor, but the toulene/xylene doesnt. BTW in my experience, xylene is roughly the same price, maybe a little cheaper, as well as easier to find. Plus, the toulene is roughly 114 octane and the xylene is roughly 117, so the same amount of xylene will bump it a little higher. SI_racer 07-23-2004, 08:11 PM DONT FORGET TO TAKE A SIP !!! U HAVE TO MAKE SURE IT TASTES LIKE CRAP THEN U KNOW ITS JUST RIGHT !!! LMFAO !!! HAHAHAHAHHA J/K DONT SIP IT ! MAN I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT U GUYS R TALKIN ABOUT !!LOL LATER |
