So I know no one ever posts in here. But this will be my first season in autocross. We have 5 point events within 30 min of my house! But my question is, which class do I belong in? I have been told a few different things and have read different things on different sites.
Car Ill be using: 2000 Civic Hatchback
Mods: B18b1 swapped, upgraded clutch, upgraded suspension, 16 inch wheels with street legal tires, I/H/E, high flow cat.
Im kinda disappointed in the autox participation of this forum. lol I figured more of you would be into it.

It all depends what club your in...most clubs follow the scaa's rules tho.
Anyways yea im disappointed in that too. Only reason I havent been out is because I got in an accident and need to do some maintance first. But hopefully ill make it out to one in May. Plan on posting a video.

ditto. I just don't talk about it because I don't compete. I just throw the car around.

This is actual scaa point events. I guess I fall into Street Modified. Im doing my first event in mid april. Cant wait! Just sucks to be in that class here...all the cars are rediculous in that class. Everyone with similar cars is in STS...but the motor swap puts me out of it I think.

Tell me about it, i was forced into street mod for the longest time due to my cf hood. didn't really care though, i just do it as a hobby, it gets expensive when you start competing for points, especially on a college student budget..

Thats dumb...lol That hood made such a difference im sure. There are plenty of tires for sale around here...plus I know a guy who works at Goodyear, so I can get all the old tires I want. Other than that it shouldnt cost much.

you shouldnt be putting too much wear on ur tires. You dont want to be screeching around corners lol. But it would be nice to have some extra tires.

Haha, you're so wrong, try going to black lake, the place will eat your tires alive. A good set of sticky tires should only last a couple autox's if you're truely driving. When you track it, that's another story. about a 1-1.5 hour session at a track will do some damage to tires. even fun runs depending on the event. And tires aren't the only thing that suffer. My buddy used to autocross an m3 and it decreased the life of the car to only a little over 100k miles and it was even well maintained. it's not a drive through the park if you're truely driving. If you autox occassionally, then you don't have to worry b/c you probably won't necessarily push it as much as regular drivers.
as far as the hood, it's not that big of a deal when you're not going for points. But when you go to nationals, then they start to care. If they didn't push the rules, then you'll have evo's and other high performance cars rockin all carbon body panels, and that won't be helpful for anyone in sts or any other class.

I wont be doing more than 2-3 a year. I think its just something I should at least give a try. I think I will enjoy it. My friend has an SVT Focus and im trying to get him to go out too. And I must say, for a ford, the SVT Focus is nice. Id drive one for sure.

Thats a really fast track. I have never seen one where people are hitting 70mph. People rarely break 50ish at the ones here. His car handles about as good stock as my Neuspeed Race springs and Tokico setup.

i've hit low to mid 60's in my 6th gen dx, just depends on the site, in that case, it's usually not a walmart parking lot.

well i live no wear near you so i have no idea about what place your talking about, plus the places the hold events around here have really nice pavement except for one part of a parking lot.
anyways the casual autox`er wont need to worry about changing his/her tires unless they are drifting the turns. Besides you dont want to hear your tires screeching slows your time down.

We have our events here in the parking lot of Cardinal Stadium...so its big. Also at the UPS hub we have here.

No, if the tires ain't screechin' then you're not goin' fast enough.

lol w/e. You can still go fast and no be screechin`. I mean yea of coarse a little but once you start slidding and stuff your losing time and killing your tires, unless your tryin to drift which is fun but not as much fun as a rwd car lol.
Yea they hold events at my work. The oakland a's colesium. Huge parking lots, great for autox. Cali has a lot of big places to hold events.

Cali has everything. Ive always wanted to go out there...mainly for skateboarding. But here in KY, we have no emissions testing. So anything goes as far as mods.

yeah you are so lucky! Cali's emissions are going to make my turbo project a lot harder. I'm going to have to get a piggyback and and a chipped/socket ecu so i can put the stock ecu back in for emissions

Yeah, that sucks. I would only buy an EG if I were in Cali just so I wouldnt have to worry about OBD conversions and such.

I've been away from HCF for too long....
If this is an SCCA Region, then you will be in Street Modified(SM). Not sure how competitive your region is but SM is a very fast class where I'm at.

I have started autocross as much as i can and am building my car for my class. with you car mods by scca you would probably going to be in street prepared. but with an engine swap i think you get put in a special class for heavily modified vehicles. here is the 2009 scca rules. just read through each of the classes allowed modifications and you will find where you fit in. most people at the events are very helpful and the first couple times you race you are in a novice class where you don't get points http://scca.com/documents/Solo_Rules/2009_Solo_Rules.pdf

I ran in SM, but I also could have run in STO.
