Engine & Internal - Ok....what's next?!

Ok guys,
So I finally took out the turbo setup and, "I think", blocked off everything that needed to block off but, my car is not starting.
I would turn her over but she wouldn't start. Seems as though there is a fuel delivery problem now.
I checked to make sure that the fuel pump was working and it is, sooooooo,
what can possibly be the matter?
I took out the FMU and connected the fuel line to the OEM Pressure regulator and i hooked the little vacuum hose from the OEM PR to the IM.
Steer me in the right direction OH WISE ONES :)
OH and the engine tilt is gone. I put in the new transmission bracket in and also I found out that a lower mount also needs to change.
Next on the agenda is the CV Joint boots.
I already bought those so I just have to install em.
Update 06-02-2009
what's the matter....i guess there are no wise ones here then?!
Okay, found that it is the fuel pump giving the problem.
Where I removed the turbo setup, the fuel pump, which is a walbro 255 lhp, must be giving to much fuel and causing the car to not start. Must be flooding it, IDK.
So I'm getting a stock pump to see how that goes.
Also I had to take out the starter to have that rebuilt.
Update 06-05-2009
Okay, guys and gals, here's where I'm at now.
Installed the new fuel pump and starter.
Started her up and she was bogging when I hit the gas.
Did some searching and stumbled upon the IAC Valve.
Took that off and cleaned it up with some carb spray.
After the cleanup, I started her up but below 2000 rpm she stalls out.
I did a few donuts in my backyard.......was the first time i really got to feel it out since I got the car a month ago......
Dayam for a lil buggy that sucker has some power and the exhaust sounds like sex :) nice deep tone.
I can't wait to get this thing figured out.
So I am making some headway.
I am going to pull down the Throttle Body tomorrow and clean that up and check for any air leaks from vacuum hoses.
I gatta get a new air filter and fuel filter too.
If anyone has any input as to anything I may need to check while I'm at it.....pleeeeeeeeeaaaaaasssseeeeee tell me.
I really don't wanna get a new IACV cuz them dam things sooooo expensive. By the time I get it landed here it would run about $400.00
Help me out please.

06-08-2009, 03:01 AM
Dang......I thought u guys coulda help me out.
I have searched and searched and still haven't found anything.
Anyways, I took down the IM and cleaned everything out with carb cleaner.
Got all the oil and residue out but to no avail.
The engine won't start. She's turning over but she ain't starting.
I hooked everything up correctly, i checked all the vacuum hoses.....the whole shibang.
Come on...please.....somebody gatta know something that could help me out.

Sorry, no idea. Hope its not something as bad as a bent valve. Did you check your injectors?

06-12-2009, 02:44 AM
Okay question, would the iacv cause the car to run bad or not start?
Yesterday, I got my battery charged and went at it again. First go, she started, ran for about 1/2 a minute and then died. started her again and she ran for about a minute, I started to rev her and she felt like she was going to cut out so I let up of the rev. When I went to rev again she shut off. Okay, third times a charm. Started her, let her run. She ran and then she started surging up, down, up. down. Took of the sensor from the IACV and she leveled off. I revved her up and she kept up her idle. I jumped in and drove her around the yard for a few minutes......yeah my yard is that big. She didn't shut off. I jumped out and as soon as I plugged the sensor in......she started surging and then she shut off. So for right now the likely culprit is the IACV.

i was thinking while i'm at it I would change the TPS and MAP sensor.
While researching MAP sensor I realized that I have a "Valve Check Link" in between the MAP sensor and TB. Could this also be causing a problem since I have taken out the Turbo setup?
cvcrcr99
06-15-2009, 11:17 AM
Are you talking about the missing link? You have any pics by chance?
islandtuner
06-15-2009, 11:31 AM
Yeah, actually, I am talkin bout the missing link.
In taking out the turbo setup, as I was going over the IM I looked at it and said......hmmm I never saw one of these under a MAP sensor. I thought about removing it but I said what the hell....it shouldn't cause that big of a deal. So I left it in.
cvcrcr99
06-15-2009, 11:58 AM
I wouldn't mess with the TPS as it needs to be aligned by a machine (However, I am not sure exactly how this is done). For the missing link under the MAP sensor, you should be able to just remove it and be fine. If anyone else has a comment on this, post it up!
islandtuner
06-15-2009, 12:16 PM
ALRIGHT......It looks like I'm gettin' somewhere.
So the missing link, then, can be causing a faulty reading and CEL?

by any chance do you still have the intercooler and piping? i really need some
islandtuner
06-16-2009, 05:46 AM
yeah I still have the full setup.
Where exactly are you located?
I live in the Bahamas so I would have to see how our shipping rates work over here.
Depending on how it is, it may be your best bet to purchase new piping and intercooler where you are at.
Oh does anyone have an aftermarket dealer in florida where i can purchase an iacv.
I been lookin but I cant find any.
Thanx

This is my IACV.
Having a problem figuring out what year engine this is from.
Again...the engine in the car is a swap so IDK exactly what year it is.

When i pull the sensor from my IACV, the car shuts off but its revs up and down and up and down with it connected. I advanced my spark to keep it running but it will still do it but will stop after a while of driving if the lights are on but the rpms sit at 1100 and it sputters to accelerate. Any Ideas?

what type of engine do you have? Like the engine code (ex. d16y7, b18c1...) Dont base buying your parts off what year car the engine was in, but rather the engine code.
I live in california, I'm just looking for any deals i can possibly get. LMK your price.

Okay Update.....
I got the brand new IACV. It helped somewhat but was still surging a bit. A friend of my brother, imports hondas and he loaned us a MAP Sensor and a TPS. Come to find out the TPS is bad so I changed all the sensors one time while I was at it. Started the car and she ran with no surging. I pressed gas and the car was pushing out a load of white smoke constantly so a friend of mine who does mechanics diagnosed that a blown head gasket is the culprit. So I went and got a full set.....so we will be changing all of the seals, rings, etc. Once this is done I should be ready to go. Since I have gotten this car I have basically changed every part imaginable on the engine. I'm thinking I may go ahead and change the O2 sensors while I'm at it and the Distributor Cap. I'll keep you guys posted.

Dam man you have really went thru a lot on that engine.. Good luck on changing all this stuff out now :P

I know right?
Well at least at the end of the day I will know that everything was done by me and done right. My advice.....Never EVER, EVER, EVER, buy a boosted civic if you don't know who you are buying from. Good thing is I have a sale lined up for the Turbo setup at $800 so I will recoup what money I have invested in the engine and I will know exactly what I have internally. So when I DO decide to sell it..........HOLD UP.......HEEEEELLLLL NO I AIN'T SELLIN' ****!!! I put way to much into this car.
In total since I started this "project"...to date....I have spent almost $1500.00 by the time I am done I may be in about $2500. Basically a brand new/old engine. :)
My next project......I am going to buy a B18/H22 and just build the engine to perfection and then find a shell to put it in. :)

AHHHHHHH.....The sweet smell of success.
Well we took the head down and come to find out the dam head was warped.
Guy before me really had an effed up mechanic working on this engine.
I must have know why I didn't take a chance and drive this.
Well, my boy said he'll have the head back on tomorrow and I may be ready to take her for a spin on the weekend. My birthday is next week so this is the best b-day present I could possibly get. WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO :D
I'm going to buy some gold paint to paint the valve pan over the weekend and get my bay looking purdy.
I can't wait

UPDATE 08/10/2009
Okay....a little help here.
Now that everything is torqued down and in place I need to find out something.
Well I had to get some new screws for the valve pan as the dummy who had the car before me tightened the flippin thing down too tight and frigged the threads. So anywho...I haven't called my mechanic as yet but I would like your views on this.
I started the car and she runs fine but when I shift her into gear or reverse when I press gas she bogs. Do you think the timing may be off? What other problem could this be?
Thanks

08-10-2009, 07:30 PM
sounds like you have your wire harness plugs on the tb backwards there is 2 plugs that are the same when i swapped my engine i did that and it was that
you should have a cel on ... whats the cel
islandtuner
08-11-2009, 12:16 PM
okay, they were on wrong but the problem is still there.
Now I know that the TPS needs replacing because I had a surging issue before I did the headjob. But would the TPS cause the car to not want to move in either direction? When I pressed the gas after that it refused to idle up...but it's running... could the timing be off?

MUTHA FCUKINIT. You guys wouldn't believe this ****! Right now if I see the cocksucker who gave me this car...I might kill me a muthafcuker. So i saw a little oil leak. I changed the base pan oil gasket and all the possible seals and gasket that may be leaky. So after the easy stuff was changed I was still having a leak. So I assumed that maybe the crank seal may need to change. So I go ahead, my brother and I, and take down the gear box to remove the rear crank seal......come to find out......I GATTA CHANGE THE MUTHA FCUKIN CLUTCH......Please.....any noobie who might be interested in purchasing a turbocharged civic.......DO NOT PURCHASE UNLESS YOU KNOW THE PEOPLE WHO YOU'RE GETTING IT FROM. Good thing with my situation is my brother and I do our own mechanic work so we save big time....Even though I am already $2,000 in, if I didn't know mechanics I may have already spent over $5000 here in the bahamas. But get this.....the guy who owned the car...a friend of his called me up the other day and was like...."Boss, I wanna buy the shell of your car" So i'm like wtf for.....who told you I had a shell for sale?...how the fcuk do you know my car aint workin. Dude went silent.....so I'm saying now...that mutha fcuker knew he was givin me a bag a problems.....I can't wait to see his ass in public.....but anyways....my engine now is officially rebuilt....every single part is brand new...I had an opportunity to run her and she runs beautifully, so tomorrow I put in the seal and clutch and that should conclude the saga of "MY FCUKED UP CIVIC"....I'll keep y'all posted

Okay....so....new clutch is in, I changed the CV Joint boots. Played hooky today just to get that done. At one point during the day I started to get a bit depressed but my big bro was there to cheer me up. Only thing now that needs to be done is I have to change the lower left engine mount and I thing I may change all the belts. And while I am changing the belts I may just go in and change the front crank seal on it. We'll fire her up on Saturday and see how it goes. Then once that is done my main focus will be getting the A/C running and getting it licensed and insured. This has truly been a big and expensive learning experience....My big bro said.....DON'T YOU EVER PRACTICE FCUKERY LIKE THIS EVER AGAIN IN LIFE. Trust me, when I get this finished anyone ask me if I'm selling this, they will have to make a good offer.
Justin, I'll make sure put in a few for ya. I'll let you guys know the progress on Sunday.
Oh and I need a new vtec switch/ controller....whatever the hell it is....i need one of those

Well guys the moment of truth is almost here. My cousin called me today and told me he has th ebrand new TPS :) Imma slap that in tonight and see what she does. Hopefully this is it for me :) I changed the engine mounts, and did a tune up. So I basically have a brand new engine now. Only problems from here now would be electrical, knock on wood. And I think I will change the O2 sensor while I'm at it. Anywayz....wish me luck :)

(SHAKING MY HEAD AND LAUGHS OUT LOUD IN TOTAL DISBELIEF AND DISGUST!) I don't friggin' believe this. I really, really don't. So I put in the TPS and try to start the car and now she won't start. I checked all the connections and made sure everything was hooked up in the right places and still nothing. Called my mechanic friend who is the expert on timing and he says it seems the timing is off so we need to take down everything with the cam and what not. Trying to loose the crank this morning, we had put the ratchet on the cam gear nut to hold the it in place so the crank wouldn't spin. When we put the wrench on the crank and hit it so that we could shock the nut holding in the crank, it came loose but the bolt head on the cam gear broke of too. So we had to end up taking off the cam shaft so we can take it to the machine shop tomorrow to get the bolt out. This car is really putting me to the test. I started off with this honda as a complete newbie to hondas but now I have literally gone to and through every extent of this engine. At this point I'm not even frustrated anymore because it was my mistake for being so hasty and trading my other car and it's a learning experience for me at the same time. But anyways I'll see what happens tomorrow. I'm going to chill and spend some QT with my family.

Well I will have it licensed and insured and I'll slap a for sale sticker on it while I drive around town. If it gets sold.....it gets sold....if not I'll just keep it and invest in a used/new D16 engine and go to town on upgrading....I already have a turbo setup so half the battle is done. I can purchase a used engine at a junkyard here in the Bahamas for about $600 so that's a good buy. I have it posted on facebook and people have already asked about it so...I'll see what happens :)

i read the auto trans fail before the engines go. i guesss you got a standard trans so thats better then. mabey thats y i am not as lucky. i don't know how reliable these cars really are i haven't had it enough!
94civichatchback
09-08-2009, 11:09 AM
the reason the auto trans goes out is 98% the owners fault.
1:they never change the fluid until it starts giving problems.
2:they add stop leak, stop slip, lucas oil. and clogs the filter.
3: they dog it thinking its a race car.
4: they hook up the engine with more hp. auto trans arent ment to hold more than stock hp.

Thanks for the offer man, but I like the simplicity of the D16 also the openess of the engine. The DOHC takes up so much space, kinda reminds me of the 300zx engines, jammed tight into the hood....If I upgrade I'm going H22.

Look at it this way, eventually you'll run out of things to break.
At least you don't find little retarded mistakes that the previous owner had done.
My vtec was hooked up to the O2 sensor wire on the ecu cause the previous owner didn't know what he was doing, besides multiple other things.
