Default B16a ECU

ok a few days ago i was talkin bout my friend's jdm b16 having problems on power. sounds good now and today he's gonna test drive it and see wat happens. now question he wanted me to ask u guys is: Is there a difference if the ECU came off an auto b16a or does it have to come from a standard b16a? Also he said he's heard bout people usin a p28 ecu instead of the p30(which he has the p30)... need info on that too. thanks in advanced

Yes they are different. Once you start to drive a manual car with an auto ECU the CEL will come on with a bunch of codes related to the speed sensor and transmission, and it will probably go into limp home mode which means the VTEC won't work.

alright... i also just recieved word from my friend that he has a p28 ECU... wat are the differences on the serial numbers in a auto ECU from a standard. he said maybe thats the reason he has the check engine light on and gives him a lot of codes... he could have an auto p28 ECU. i sent him a pic of the numbers on my ECU and he said the bottom numbers didn't match... are they suppose to?

ok ill help out here, the best ecu to use for the b16a is the p30 ecu, ive had the same motor in my integra i recently traded for the jeep. reason being is the vtec engagement point is different and also the p30 has a high rev limit and that being the b16 is dohc and the p28 is for a sohc, but a p28 will run the b16 fine.

on the serial sticker on the ecu's i have posted a sticky about this. the last digits on the sticker if above 51 its for auto if below 51 than its a manual. also i have another sticky about how to convert auto ecu's to manual

if you still have doubts post a pic of the ecu's stickers and ill tell you oh and dont let that p30 go they are super hard to find

oh 1 more thing if he has a cel vtec will not engage and the ecu goes into limp mode, so get the cel off for the full power of the motor
