Default Gas Milage Problem

im only getting 17-20 mpg and before i revd the engine (not flooring it) but got it up around 4500 rpms most of the time. but today i had to drive my dad around and i could only go to 3000-3500 rpms (or he'll say im going to fast) and the gauge seemed to drop even FASTER!?!? u think it could b my O2 sensor, mayb i need new spark plugs and dizzy? if u have any idea of wht the problem could b, please let me know. thnks

Well, what kinds of problems are you experiencing minus the gas mileage decrease? (I'm assuming your 98' on your signature is the car we are talking about).

I'd just start with your air filter, plugs and wires. Try some fuel injector cleaner and change the oil.

If you're having problems and the check engine light is on, then try getting it diagnosed at Autozone or something like it and have them tell you what the problem is.

17-20 MPG is really bad for a Civic period. If I ever dropped below 30 MPG in my DX, I was assuming something was wrong.
