i was driving to school today and my engine light went on about half way to school (2000 civic) ..im at school now and i go home at 4:00,so if anyone can reply before then, what should i check? will it be safe to drive home on the highway ,about 20 min drive? should i bring it in somewere after school to get it checked??

 

Did you notice anything funny prior to the CEL coming on?

 

one of the o2 sensors might have gone bad.

 

nope nothing..i open the hood and took a look at all the fluids and everything is fine, i didn't see anything unpluged, car runs the same, im not sure what to do..i guess ill make it home but drive in the slow lane or something

 

ok well i thought it was the oil..but its not because the oil light would of gone on, i read in my manual and it said if the check engine light goes on its a problem with the emissions system, sooo im going to try and reset my ecu..and bye one of thos haynes manuls tomorow to see if it tells me anything else...if the light comes back on, i guess im going to have to get a diagnostic...is that the only solution to this???

 

just go to autozone and get the codes pulled, then youll kow where to start.

 

well i found out the problem....its because im a idiot[sm=headbang.gif], i opend my gas cover to see if the gas cap was clicked all the way....and my gas cap IS NOT EVEN THERE!! , i must of left it at the gas station friday so im hoping someone turned it in, or else im going to have to go bye a universal one or somthing...thanks anyways guys

 

We all lose things off our cars every once in a while. I did a stupid thing a couple of weeks ago and let my SHO (manual transmission) roll off the ramps, hitting my other Taurus square in the face. D'oh!

 

yeah, you can get 'em for like 3 bucks at autozone.

Dammit, I should have been on top of this one, I did the exact same thing with my Jetta. The funny thing was, I was up north for Christmas, and I was all spazzing out about my CEL, and my FRIGGIN MOM knew what it probly was and went out and fixed it. Good times...
