Default Newbie and 1.5 vtec

Hi guys

I am new to the civic world and have been looking at a 97 1.5 vtec 5 door hatchback. Am looking for economy and a bit of punch when i want it. Am i right in thinking this has around 115 BHP. Also when i enter the car details into my insurance it comes up with 1.5 Vtec-E. Is there any difference with the two engines ? Is one less powerful. How can you tell.

Sorry if its a dumbass question

Hi,

VTECH-E is the "economy" tuned version of the technology in the engine.
This does not mean it's a wimpy motor, but it's focus is gas mileage.

See this flow chart: http://www.leecao.com/honda/vtec/index.html

Regards,

In my Haynes manual for HP #s this engine puts out only 92HP. The regular 1.5 16 valve puts out 102 while the 1.5 8 valve is somewhere in the 70s. I would look for the 1.6vtec or at least the 1.5 16 valve non-vtec.

that is what i have [sm=icon_rock.gif].. not the best of engines, for power but it runs pretty good. but like he said i would keep an weye out for a D16z6 they have Vtec, and i do believe are registered for arround 125 at the crank or something like that
