Default How VTEC-E and i-VTEC work!

So i noticed the "How VTEC work sticky" up at the top and thought these might be a nice addition to that sticky, if not their own:

i-VTEC: http://asia.vtec.net/article/ivtec/

VTEC-E: http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=881562

Nice find

got a question about VTEC-E...
based on the information in the link, is the only difference between VTEC-E and standard VTEC that the high cam lobes are different from one another? Would this mean that you could take a D16Y5 (HX VTEC-E) and put a D16Y8 (EX VTEC) cam in it and essentially turn it into a D16Y8?

NO on the Y8 the cam has 5 lobes per 4 valves, the intake side of the cam has 2 small lift and duration lobes and 1 bigger lift and longer duration lobe the way VTEC is engaged is the vtec solenoid releases oil pressure into the lifters and locks all 3 lifters together and the middle BIG LIFT and LONG DURATION lobe is opening the 2 intake valves more and longer. the y5 has 4 lobes to 4 valves but 1 of them is very small and when vtec engages the intake valves are opening the same from that 1 bigger lobe. if you put a y8 cam in a y5 you would just be defeating the purpose of the y5s fuel economy and the VTEC would work properly.
