09 Civic EX-L Audio System Upgrade
Just purchased an 09 EX-L Civic for the wifey. Audio system sounds like crap. I dont want to change the radio and add a sub, I prefer to just upgrade the existing speakers (6 of them) and add a 6 channel amp. Any recommendation on how many watts per speakers since I'm using the factory radio? Is 100 watts per spkr too much? I'm not goin to sound competitions, just want it to sound nice. Thanx
depends on the speakers you are putting in read the specs on the new speakers
i have 200 watts running threw speakers
i also have a good cheap sony 600watt 4 channel amp that would be perfect for what you are doing for sale 40$ plus shipping
i'd put a 600watt amp and just only run it half way up that would sound pretty good

thanx for the reply hatchback ... I was thinking the same thing about 600 watts, and I can get 100 watt speakers or so. I also noticed the JL audio amp works with 12 or 14 volts. Obviously, using 14 volts produces more power. How do I know how many volts i'll be working with?
94 does not have a 600 watt RMS amp. that's what you are thinking of. His Sony 600 watt amp is rated 600w PEAK. Peak ratings mean nothing. Always look at the RMS rating of an amp.
Nothing against you 94
Also, it's a bit more work than just hooking an amp and putting speakers in, especially if you are going to keep the stock HU. Are you going to do the work or have a shop do it??
I'm assuming the six speakers are two tweeters, two midbass drivers, and two coaxial speakers in the back...am i right? What are the sizes of all the speakers? and locations
What you said in your original post is described as an "active" crossover system. If you don't know what that is, you might not want to do it...or research it

nobody said it was a 600 rms amp where do you get that from .. and also a 600rms amp would blow every speaker he hooks up(door, tweeters)
i was just sayin for what he is doing that my 600watt 4channel amp would do the job.
all he is doing is wanting a little more power through his doors and rear speakers(no bass) and keeping his stock head unit.
i have the hi input plugs also with the amp so he can hook his factory stereo up to it.

all you gotta do is run your factory speaker output wires into these wires and from amp out to your speakers.

I got that from his original post. and post #3. You guys aren't thinking the same, and i just pointed it out.
well if he sent 600 rms to each speaker, yeah he'd blow them, but he was thinking (without knowing it lol) of an active setup, which means there would be six speakers, meaning that each speakers gets 100 rms. There's a bunch of aftermarket speakers rated at 100 rms (like mine).
to the OP, what's you budget?
