I just bought a 2002 civic ex. It has the CD player with 6 speaker setup. The speaker in the drivers door sounds like it is blown most of the time, once in awhile it sounds ok. I'm thinking about changing out all of the speakers and maybe the receiver since I'm not real impressed with the way the system sounds. My first question is how to get the door panels off to get to the speakers. Then what about the rear speakers, tweeters and receiver. I'm pretty mechnically inclined but should I attempt this or should I take the car to someone else? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

first, welcome to the forums

second, ok, as for the door speakers i assume this is similar to my car (98 ex) so take a pry or small screwdriver and the grill over the speakers should pop right out. on my car it is held in place by 3 or 4 pop clips, no big deal easily in and out.
Your door speakers should be 6.5"s also i suggest you go with a component set for better sound quality, if you dont think you can handle it, then hire somebody but it is really as simple as matching 2 wires up and then screwing them in. Thanks Todd, don't mean to sound to dumb but what do you mean by component set? Also any certain brand name speaker recommended? I don't want to spend a ton of money but I won't go super cheap either. Does the other site talk about the rear speaker replacement? I keep reading these nightmare posts about tearing the whole back end of the car apart to get to the speakers and same with getting the receiver out.

 

ok, in a speaker (a typical one) there is what we call a woofer (not to be confused with a subwoofer) and a tweeter. The woofer produces lower frequencies where as the tweet provides us with the highs. All a component set is, is a set of speakers, a woofer and a tweeter seperate, this give you the option to mount the tweeter in a different spot than in your door, where the woofer will mount.

For the rear deck, (again this is my car) drop down you back seats and check where the plastic is behind your seats. It should just be snapped on pop it right off little by little and you speakers will be exposed.

As for the stereo itself, i cant remember how mine came out lol, but i do know that it wasnt too much of a hassle.

I just recently put 4 new rockford fosgates 6.5" and a kenwood deck. sounds real clean and really has some kick for no sub installed (yet). They could go for around 100 for a pair, kenwood deck went for 260 with bluetooth and full ipod controls, very sleek looking not too wild and flashy. only had it a couple days but im happy with everything so far
