Hi,

I've just bought some Infinity Reference 6.5" speakers (6512i) for the front of my civic (6.5" being the size they recommended on their website), but i'm having real trouble getting them to fit. They are too big to force into the standard plastic adaptors (which i believe are for 5 1/4 speakers anyway), and even when i remove that, the speaker still won't sit flush with the speaker hole. I can't tell whether this is because of the width of the speaker being to big, or the magnet hitting the back of the hole.

I was just wondering if anyone's had this problem, and what they did to get around it? Maybe some kind of makeshift spacer?

Would appreciate any help because I really don't want to send them back! :-(

Most aftermarket speakers are bigger then factory= better sound, go to a home depot or lowes find a pice of plywood that is useless to them and make your own braket, you can cover it in some kind of fabrick (whatever you have laying around) drill holes in the plywood or it can split.

 

my 6.5 kappa components wouldnt clear either. i had to make a spacer out of MDF.

 

INfinity does make plus sized woofers. There should have been a trim ring kit to go with them. If not snag a Metra adapter kit.

 

My Kappa Perfects fit without a spacer... it just required a little (a whole lot) of plastic trimming and some snipping of the metal of the door frame. After I cut out some metal and all the plastic they cleared the window by about an 8th of an inch.

Just get rid of all the plastic behind where the stock speaker mounts and you should be fine, your best friend for doing this is a really sharp knife.

 

spacer wouldent help me cuse the grill wouldent kit over it so i pulled out the dremel and went to work...now they work!
