^^^ that's the setup i have in mine.

JVC headunit $150 on sale at circuitcity.com and then paid $60 for the JVC iPod adaptor.

now i have my favorite songs in my car 24/7 with no static and I can control the menu from my JVC faceplate or with a wireless controller.

and with the model of JVC i have, I can also hookup thumbdrives -- or even better, gig-sized hard drives to my faceplate directly and carry ALL my music. lol.

Buy a transmitter and you'll end up like me or Fiirkan returning it.
DON'T BUY IT. The best you can get it radio quality (which is like WTF??)

This is what I would recommend (warning: wont work w any mp3 players other than iPod)

I would suggest just getting a deck with a AUX line in...some RCA cables...and a RCA > headphone jack adapter.

Transmitters blow...

^ but this won't control the iPod from the deck if that is a feature you want. If you got this route, you'll probably also want some sort of car charger for the iPod. However I'm still sticking with the Alpine option I posted above for a quick, easy, controlable, and nice sound quality without an amp.
