Default Aftermarket Stereo in 99 Ex

i just purchased a 99 civic with an aftermarket heat unit already installed. I want to replace the head unit, but I have a few questions...

1. Since there is already an aftermarket head unit installed, do I have to remove the whole dash ( which I heard is a pain in civics) in order to replace the aftermarket head unit with a new one?

2. Do i need the "keys" from the previous owner to remove the head unit?

3. Is the removal of the aftermarket head unit different from removing the stock radio a 99 civic came with? There are all kinds of tutorials online showing how to remove the stock stereo in and 99 civic, but it seems like a lot for me to handle as i am not very handy....just trying to replace this aftermarket stereo with a new one.

Any help with the removal would be greatly apprecated...

gont know about 99s spesificly, this is just info ige gotten from installing other car head units...

Since there is already one there, you should just be able to pop it our, changing the wiring and slip the new in... you will need a "key" but i belive they are all standard and your new head unit will have them with them... the look liek little shims of metel, just skid them in acroding to directions and pull the unit out. GL and hope the PO did the wiring correctly, min didnt and turned a 30min job into a 3 hour job

You might try pulling the center console to see if its loose. Some places don't put the bottom bolts back in. (Don't break it though.) You might be able to just unbolt it. Mine doesn't have keys or anything.
