Default alarm problem

hey guys, i got a clifford concept alarm that came with the car when i bought it. the previous owner installed it in 2001. lately the alarm goes off in the middle of the night and when i look outside there is nobody or nothing there. it happens like 3 times a week. only twice out of like the 30 times it went off people were actually trying to jack something. the wierd thing too is that it takes a good amount of force to have the alarm go off. do you think there's a short or something along that line. or maybe bcuz its real cold out, bcuz it just goes off for no reason it seems. just today it went off twice in 5 minutes and there was nothing out there. sorry for the long post too.[/align]

trace all the wiring and look for shorts..

or check the sensitivity.. could be any number of things. hard to tell without lookin at it.

did you install it yourself?

idk who installed it, it was on the car when i bought it. i know the shock sensor thing is sensitive but the actual alarm takes alot for it to go off.

Some of them have voltage regulators too, and when they sense a drop in voltage they just go off. I know sometimes cold affects voltage, but I really don't know if that would be a cause.

I had an alarm that would go off like that but it was crappy.

I would trace wiring, find out where its going and what its hooked into, maybe then you can find the cause. Or if theres a shock sensor, see if its somewhere that can be easily vibrated or etc.. I am not an alarm pro sadly.

it could be the connection with the battery, so basically it might be like you're taking the wire off and then putting it back on, and it probably makes noise when it's first hooked up to the battery, so check that connection and make sure it's tight

Lots of Clifford retailers (maybe all?) offer lifetime warranties on the brain, can you find out where he had it installed and take it there for them to look at?

the distributor blocks? thats just an easy way to hook stuff up to the terminals, basicly they are the terminals, just hook something up to either side to test it.
