alarm and remote start on standard trans
okay guys i have been having alarm problems lately with my car. It has a viper alarm but its very old, outdated, and so on so forth. Lately its been beeping a warning like i left the headlights on but its audible from the outside, a loud beep beep that wont stop unless i press the button on my remote, but then it starts again soon enough, bout 20 seconds later. the only way to stop it is to disconnect the battery, which i dont want to do.
So i was looking at getting a top of the line new Viper alarm with remote start but only one place in Phoenix said they would do it and the guy said he wasnt even sure they would do it anyways. He also couldnt tell me what alarms they had by viper but said i would have to sign a waiver for them to install it for liability issues. Best buy said they CANT install it, but i wonder if i could bribe the install guy maybe?
Or what im looking at is doing it myself. So, has anyone out there had this same problem? has anyone installed a remote start system in a 96-00 Civic ex coupe with a 5 speed?
Thanks alot people, Eric.

alright heres the deal dude. it can be done, but most shops WILL NOT because if you start the car while its in gear or without the e-brake pulled, there goes the car rolling down the street. i have seen it done, and i have also seen a car go through an install bay wall because it was remote started in gear. now there is a way to do it using magnetic switches placed in the right places that will allow the car to start ONLY if its not in gear. but to tell you the truth i wouldn't even know where to start to try and explain it. also the e-brake can be wired in so that it will only start with the e-brake pulled, and that would just be wired in like a hood pin.
i don't personally think that a remote start is worth the risk involved with a manual. like for instance the car is in gear and the kill switch fails so the car start, and lurches and starts rolling down the road. IMO that risk is not worth it. i have a manual too and i just live without the remote start

The only good thing about having an auto ike me, When i get my new alarm it will have auto start so i can start that sucker right from my terrace and have her nice and warm before i go downstairs in the winter
DEI interface 689M is a manual transmission interface....DEI owns viper so if you go to a reliable good shop they will know exactly what it is...it is a new interface so if they dont know about it tell them to ask there rep about it... So yes you can do a remote start on a manual transmission car
hey civicduty what does this interface do? is it just an e-brake sensor or is it where you have to have the clutch pushed it to use the remote start, which would be kinda pointless because i would already be in the car pushing the clutch in.
Thanks man, Eric.
Thanks man, Eric.
how it works is before you shut off your car put the ebrake on make sure it's in neutral then you push the start button on your remote and then remove your key. then lock your car , if you unlock your car before you remote start it it wont work... it pretty much makes sure nothing has been changed since the last time the car was running in neutral...thats the easeist way i can think of explaining it... you have to remember to do that every time if you want to remote start it though...
and you should be able to get them from DEI....sigracer...you work at ultimate i think ..i dont know if you guys have a factory rep or if your direct ... if you have a rep ask him...when you go to DEI training they will cover it ... i go every year so if they will pay to send you definetly go i dont know what there policy is on sending installers to training

I have remote star and have gotten it installed in two stick shift cars, they didnt want to, but if you talk to them and be cool with them, they will just make you sign a waiver.
P.S. i ALWAYS leave my car in neutral, and they wired it so the car wont start without the ebrake on.

dito with everyone... anyone can instal it but YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE if ya try remote starting it or even ACCIDENTLY hit the remote start button.... it happens...
how much is the modual..... cause i see one on ebay but its priced at 70bucks... 78bucks after shiping... thats ALOT of money just to have remote starter on a manual!!!!!
if it was like 50bucks... id buy it... but that much OUCH ill risk it
and just kick my own @ss if i keep it in gear.......
or just use the STOP & GO feature from a remote starter system.... it wires up all the same BUT you dont conect the STARTER wire........
then ya just get into the car... start it up with the key after making sure its not in gear and Ebrake is pulled... then just push the remote button and let the alarm system take over
then just remove the key... and go back inside while the car cools down...
its at least alot safer that way by not hooking up the STARTER wire...
