Default WHICH AMP ?

I currently have a stock system but am looking to put a sub in. I am going to be getting a ported box, one 10' type R sub and dont know whether to get a 400 or 600 watt alpine amp. Money is a factor and the difference between the 400 and 600 watt amp is about $350. Will there really be that much of a difference between the two or would it make more sense to just get the 400 watt amp? Thanks.
