Amp install location ? in 94 DX hatchback
I have a 94 dx hatchback and am looking for a location to mount an amp. Was hoping to use the Fosgate 800a4 that I currently have and not have to buy a small digital amp.
I cannot find a location that this will fit other than mounting to the rear seat back. The front seat buckets drop so low that it will not fit under the seat. (unless I reshape the buckets with a large hammer)
The only possible location that might work is in the wall next to the back seat. I pulled the panel off (I assume there are different panels if you had rear speakers, mine are solid)
It looks like there might be enough room in that area but it would be some serious work and I am not sure if there would be enough air flow.
Where have you guys mounted the amps in these cars? I would rather not lose the spare. And really don't have the funds to spend $600 on a digital amp that my or may not fit under the seat.
Thanks,
Brian

I would rather not mount it to the seat as I transport things in the back with the seats down, so an amp would be in the way.
It will be powering a pair of Boston Pro 6.5" components in the front and a 10" Alpine Type R DVC sub in a small sealed box.

If it will not fit by a fairly small amount, just smack the seat with a sledge hammer a little bit. Thats what I had to do on my passenger seat.
other than that you really aren't giving yourself much of a choice other than the back of the seat. Anywhere else you would have to make some kind of amp rack to accommodate the space.

I thought about it, but since the box gets moved when I lower the seats, it's not easy with RCAs and 4 gauge wires hanging off of it.
I may see if I can get it to work under the seat by adjusting the bottom of the seat. It will be really tight and may not work with the cables sticking out since they are connected on both sides of the amp. Otherwise, I may have to just mount it on the floor behind the drivers seat and never have anyone sit behind me.

Well, I solved my issue but not exactly the way I intended. It works great but was more than I wanted to spend.
I picked up these 2 amps.
Alpine-PDX4.100
Alpine-PDX1.600
Got them for $300 ea.
Did a little clearancing of the seat bottoms and am good to go. Will post up pics after I get the head unit installed.
