Blew my friends amp
So my friend just got his Audiobahn amp in the mail and i went to install it for him. All wires hooked up to ground, remote, 12V, and his RCAs. Eveyrthing set there, mount hte amp and hook up the power and ground and as soon as we connected the 2nd wire (so that it had both power and ground) the fuse blew. Weird. It also threw itself into protect mode at this point. Hooked up the RCAs and remote, still in protect mode. Replcaed the fuse over and over again and no matter waht, as soon as we put the fuse in it blew as soon as both terminals touched. So i used a voltmeter to see what was getting power (just out of curiosity) and the remote was all set. I put the postive of the voltmeter to the fuse terminal and it was getting a normal 12V. Well i accidently touched it to both fuse terminals at once, which gave the amp power like normal, so it lit up and turned on. Weird, consdierng the remote wasnt telling it to turn on. It was on for 2 seconds, then there was a loud POP and te amp blew. Smokin, took it apart and one of the resistors was totally fried. Anyway, we're getting a replacement, but why was the amp acting like this?!
my guess is a factory defect? these things happened I've installed amp out of the box, put the fuse under the hood and turn the car on and they never come on, and that was just power, ground, and remote. no rcas and no speaker wire so the amp should just come on but never does.
yea it doesnt make snes becasue the more i think about it, when i touched the voltmeter to the fuse terminals and connected them, thats doing the same thing that a fuse would do, and wheni did that the amp turned on, even though the remote wire wasnt telling to turn on, which makes me think the amp was bad in the first place.
haha yea they're being really cool, they said i can just ship it back and they'll replace it for free.
you guys think it was bad out of hte box though? I've installed 4 or 5 different amp/sub setups and never had this happen, i dont think i did anything wrong, because as soon as i connected power/ground (without the remote on) it powered up, which is wrong in the first place.
btw this is all on my friends 96 DX, he really needs to get his *** on his forum. He's got underdash cathodes, my old R1 shift ****, ebay SRI, window tint, muffler (that actaully sounds really good for a fart can haha)then this subwoofer/amp setup i'm setting up for him.

lol it scared us ****less, we had the back seats pulled down and we're inside hte car, i'm using the voltmere, finally the amp lights up (looked really sick btw), we're happy cuz it worked finally, then POP! scared us all, lots of smoke, i guess it smelled bad (cant smell anything), took it apart and actually found hte one resistor that popped, bu the guy said i can ship it back and i get a new one for free, thoguht that was cool of them. Guess you really cna trsut 99.9% positve feedback on ebay
