Default EVEN QUICKER HELP!

I currently have my lower dash disassembled - like the FAQ said. THE DECK WON'T GET OUT. Someone needs to help me before I Roll my car off of a cliff. I can't see much, but it looks like nothing is holding it in. When I get my hand behind the deck I can move it a little up and down (meaning that it's not bolted in atleast) and it does have a cage on it. I'm to the point where I'm going to start just pulling at ****e and ruining something so I took a break. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

um what car do you have again? And if it has a cage on it then there may be some key like thingy that you have to slide in the sides to get it to come out... if not.. then brute force

I have a 98 civic. I have the little key things and they can't go in the sides, the deck face is blocking that, and I've pushed it in every where on the top and bottom and nothing happens. There's nothing to hang on to in the front, and I can barely get my hand behind it so brute force isn't really an option. I'm thinking I might just remove things step by step until I can get at it. Do you know of a write up for removing the climate controls?

I'll bet this is what happened:

They put the metal sleeve on the head unit when it was installed, and then put the screws through both the sleeve and the head unit. There are holes for 4 screws, but I'll bet they only put the front 2 in, so that's why it will wobble.

Pull the center console. There are two bolts on the underside of the dash, goldish in color, 10mm bolt I think. I haven't pulled an early 6th gen before, only late 6th gen ones. I know the consoles are different. On the 99-00, you yank those two bolts from the bottom and then start prying from the top. The bolts hold the metal core support for the center console. The thing pops out enough to start unplugging the climate controls, hazard lights, etc. Once it's loose, uninstallation should be a breeze. Can you take some pictures for us?

I remember having to pull the climate control in my old 92 Civic. You had to pop a little control rod out of a plastic connector somehow to get the thing loose. It was a pain. I hope it's more simple on the 6th gen.

uh...
bump on anything else.

No, what it was was that the metal cage had locks on the side whereas the head unit was made to have a key on the top (the head unit has stuff covering the sides, you couldn't get anything in there) so finally I got mad and just busted off the locks on the cage and pushed from behind and FINALLY got it out. When I got it out I realized I dind't have the right cable (I was going to use the RCA input for a cd changer, but for it to go to the cd changer you need to have the 8-pin DIN cable, the cd changer control, plugged in. Other wise it won't let you select the cd changer) and no one in town had it. I'm going to try a specialist store tomorrow... it's just aggravating. The cd player sucks anyways, it only plays CDs when it's about 65+ degrees in the car. I really dislike Panasonic products.
