Default Firing...

OK, so... it's been about 8 years since my last stereo build-up.... so, I'm a bit rusty... I've got some relics (not sure if they work, but... I'll find out) I finally have a car I can put a system in... I have 2 Punch 10's... and a Old School Punch 150 to put in my car.... my question is... what's the best sub firing direction? I've always had trucks, so I didn't have much of a choice... I always fired into the cab... I've seen lots of cars fire into the trunk... I was thinking about firing directly into the rear seats (into the cabin)... what do y'all think?

best thing to do is put them in a box and move it around testing every possition. In my testing with various vehicles it seemed to be I'd get the most output and clarity if I had the sub up agenst the rear wall of the trunk firing into it (away from the cabin).

Thanks... anyone else? I have the design with them firing into the cabin... but before I start cutting, I want to make sure it's right... and I won't have a portable box that I can just move around... It'll be stationary.

I find that when your putting a sub into a trunk, firing up sounds the best. I drive a 98 EX and I tried just about every direction i could think of and firing up at the deck lid sounded way better than the others. Don't really know why, but it just had a more well rounded bass.

Hope it helps.

subs should be facing up or rear in a car in most setups.. otherwise you hear distortion.. usually from movement of speaker and the direction/reflection of sound waves in the car.. more so on RF subs.. they IMO are not as clean as alot of other subs on the market.. side facing subs are ok .. but most dont usually have the room unless its custom single sub box..

i had to rf punch subs in my civic and firing them toward the rear of the car without a doubt sounded better.

Well, that's not exactly what I wanted to hear... but... it'll help... LOL... The RF Punch subs I got for free... from a friend... and the Punch 150, I traded for... not even sure it'll work... if it doesn't... I have an old school Targa 300watt I can throw on 'em.

I wanted to put my subs behind the back seat, but.... perhaps I have to re-think that... Also... on these boxes... were they ported, sealed, or BandPass?

I have had sealed 12 firing bck into the trunk and they sound the best that way. It lets the sound bounce off and come back at you from every direction, instead of directly coming at you from the subs.

In most cases, firing into the trunk (toward the back lid) will provide more output by allowing the waves more leangth to spread out. But firing it into the cab (toward the front of the car) will generally give you a better SQ and response by allowing the waves less time to make it too you. The waves are omnidirectional (they spread can be heard in most locations due to being longs waves) so youll hear just fine no matter where you put it. Unlike tweeters which where ever you point them is pretty much where youll hear them. I hope i didnt make a mistake in here and hope it helps ALSO, those old school RF are the SH%^ lol
