keys in beep/Radio
Hi,
I'm new here so hello to all.
I've a '00 Civic DX 2 door and would like to know how to modify things so I can listen to the radio with the doors open (or just the left door) without losing any of the other alarms? If it's not possible, what other alarms would I have to sacrifice?

well if ya want to not hear the beeping.... AS LONG AS YOUR GOOD ABOUT TURNING YOUR HEADLIGHTS OFF.... AND TAKING KEYS WITH YOU......
just unplug the door sensor......
ive been meaning to rewire my door triggers so they are only wired up to my car alarm but im just to lazy to do so....
but just be sure your good at removing the keys and not locking yourself outta your car or leaving your headlights ON... other than that youll be fine....
OF if ya have a aftermarket radio...... you can always do some custom wiring
simply go buy 2 DIODES from radio shack the larger of the small ones... cut the radios ACCESORY wire behind the radio and solder in ONE DIODE to that wire but BE SURE its the right way... diodes keep power from flowing back thru them.. so if you put it backwards it wont turn on the radio with the key on..
THEN basicaly Y off that wire with another wire and wire in the 2nd DIODE same way as the first... the flow going into the radio but not coming from the radio....
THEN take the Yed off wire and wire it to the radio..... and now youll have that Yd off last wire with the other diode on it... run it anywhere in the car.... use a simple toggle switch... then run wire from toggle switch to a INLINE FUSE (VERY IMPORTANT) and crimp on a FEMALE SPADE TERMINAL to the wire and plug it into the fuse box that has power all the time....
NOW ya just have to flick that switch.... and your radio will be on WITHOUT the keys.....
ive been meaning to do that as well to my car mainly for car shows that way i can turn the radio on and walk around with out worrying about someone hoping in my car and driving off with the keys in it.LOL

Wow, that's pretty good thinking, thanks. But I gotta say, along the lines of that switch, why not just connect it to an "always on" circuit than?
I know I could simply disconnect the wire from the door switch but I don't want to lose the "lights on beep".
I do notice that the keys in beep begins as soon as the very tip of the key enters the ignition so is there a particular wire feed that connects to the, if I may say, ignition switch key door that could be disconnected without causing harm to who knows what?
Thanks and have fun

well i cannt figure out all those wires on the colum.... ive tried but i just dont wanna probe around to much with the air bag thier!
but reason not to connect to ALWAYS ON is if ya dont wire in the switch youll have to remember to turn the radio off manualy every day.... thats a dead battery waiting to happen

You can wire the radio to an always on wire, then you'd have to use the control on the front of the radio to turn it on and off every time. But some radios even while they are "off" by the front panel control still draw considerable current from the battery to show the clock time on the display. They don't go fully off until the key switch wire is turned off.
If you were to disconnect the door switch then the interior light won't come on when you open the door, that's going to get annoying real fast.
You should be able to disconnect the key detector wire at the key switch, which means it won't ding if you leave the key in, but the buzzer still may or may not sound if you have the key turned to accessory with the door open.

Oh yeah, how could I have overlooked the dome light, gotta have that.
I don't know whether the beeps will be there with the door open and ignition on accessory but I'm willing to take a shot at it to see if someone has a wiring schematic to point me to the most convenient access point to it.
Another thought I had was to install a switch to temporarily, but completely, disconnect the bebebebeep speaker itself. Any thoughts on how to best accomplish that or where that key in ignition wire is?
It's too bad the key in ignition beeps don't time out after a set time.

wire how i said...... using 2 DIODES and a switch and alittle wire and your set... of course the radio always uses alittle power for the memory features and clock but its so minor it wont hurt anything BUT with the radio turned ON and playing music it uses alot more power of course.....
then it wont beep unless the key is in the ignition... no problems jsut be sure to use those diodes or youll have a feedback loop which will try to power the rest of the cars accessory wire...

Instead of diodes, you could also use a double throw switch, those switch a center terminal between the two outside terminals. The center terminal goes only to the radio, one outside terminal goes to the ignition wire that you cut that used to lead directly to the radio, and the other outside terminal goes to a source that's always on. Now when you have the switch one way the radio will go on and off with the ignition like before, and the other way it's always on.
ya you could use a 3way switch... but with it that way youd be playing with the switch alot more. but would be easier to do if ya dont understand diodes or soldering...
