I've been having some problems with the front speakers in my '98 Civic DX. The door panel had a plastic housing for the stock speakers which I cut out to make room for my 6.5" Rockford Fosgate speakers. Well, because that plastic housing was gone, some water got to the speakers and now they don't work. I ordered some new speakers and I was going to customize a foam speaker baffle to look like the stock plastic housing in an effort to somewhat protect the speakers from water. However, the new 6.5" speakers are, in total, 6 3/4" with the ring around the edge to mount the speakers.

So my question is, how are putting speakers in the kick panel? Hard to do? Will they sound good? Would it be easier than making the door water proof and making the hole another 1/8" bigger all around?

 

i have a set of qlogic qforms and they work great if you're not looking for crazy amazing sound quality. if you've got tan interior, mine are for sale, but they are cut for components meaning a hole where the tweeter mount is.

 

This might sound like a dumb question, but how much do the kick panels decrease the amount of leg room? Are they just "bolt on?" How difficult is it to run the wires for the speakers?

 

decreases leg room some, but specifically on the drivers side you lose the dead pedal, and the passenger side you lose some. in your specific case i would say just reinstall in the door and figure out something to protect them.

 

Thanks for the offer cobb2819, but I decided to make the speakers work in the door. I went to the place that built my system a few years ago and they're going to put some new RF Power series 6.5" in there with some water guards/baffles. Also, they said the source of the leak is where the bottom of the window meets the top of the outside door panel (whatever that's called).
