NEED HELP ASAP
I have a panasonic CQ-DF402U cd player in my car and I'm trying to remove the deck so I can access the back of it and it WON'T budge at all. I'm pushing down on the lock mechanism and it won't move. Someone please help me ASAP with getting this thing out of my car XD
Ugh - Even though the directions don't say it and it doesn't include it on the installation instructions, I'm pretty sure you need a key for this model. If I don't have a problem removing the deck then admins can delete this tomorrow, in the mean time assume I'm still having an issue (even after I go buy a key) and someone leave an idea.
Finally someon replied to this XD It's a 98 Civic DX - the panasonic is a CQ-DF402U (from memory, sorry if it's wrong, but I'm 99 percent sure it's right). I brought it to Curcuit City and had a guy look at it and with him pushing down the locking mechanism and me pulling with all my strength we still couldn't get it to budge. I'd rather not take off the whole dash assembly... but that's seeming like the only hope.
if its where the stock radio used to be, on mine, you have to take the whole dash apart to get to the screws holding it in. if its above the cupholders, its bolted onto the cupholder so you still have to take the whole dash apart. if you need help i can post a step by step on removing the dash, its not that hard.
I think sde780 and civicduty96 are right. You might have to pull the underside dash panels so you can get underneath the deck. Some stock head units have a bracket that is bolted to the frame. The aftermarket one might be using the same bracket. (makes it harder to steal, at least?)
Where is it mounted? Where the stock radio used to be or right above the cupholders?
Here are the instructions for removing it where the stock radio was: http://www.installerworld.com/Instructions/98HCR.htm
If it's right above the cupholders go from the step where they took the 2 screws out from below the A/c controls, the panel with the 12V outlet, and remove the 10 screws along both sides of the parking brake, there should be clips holding the stuff on, just pop them off. Then you'll see the screws that hold the headunit to the cupholders.

Awesome, that's the guide I needed and it looks fairly simple. Where do you think I'd be able to find the mount for the cd player? You know... the thing that USUALLY an aftermarket deck would slide in to and lock in (I think mine doesn't have that and was just screwed in to the dash like the stock radio).
