If the cop who sees it can't tell it plays video, then you can't get in trouble.

There are plenty of stereos in cars that look like that but do not play video. Many of them have GPS. I think his has GPS, so he could just tell that to the cop to explain the big screen.

I have asked every cop i have seen and it looks like its meant to be there and doesnt flip out or some dumb **** like every thing else and its primary use just as an OEM one from the factory is navigation, you can also do other stuff on OEM units but its meant for navigation. I have never had one problem because i dont make it obvious that it does other stuff along with the navigation. I dont drive around watching movies or anything cause that is retarded, can it play movies yes it can, but i dont watch them. Yes i have music videos that will play while i drive but that is more for the show factor lol most of the time its on the main screen or on my digital dash

If you don't mind me asking, what front end are you using for all this? I've seen reviews for a ton of different ones out there, and thought I'd see what you thought of yours.

I run Centrafuse its the best out there right now and will continue to be. Have used them from the beginning, they are kinda pricey but you get what you pay for

Sorry for all the questions, but I've been dying to try this out, and didn't know they actually had Car PC specific PSUs until I read your project here. What are you using to take the sound from the PC and send it to your speakers? Do you just have an adapter that goes from a headphone style output to your amp, or did you get an add in sound card that just natively supported that output?

I just go from the mini headphone jack to an RCA plug and go to the AUX input on my headunit.

Ah, I thought the screen was purely a screen, not part of a stereo unit. Makes much more sense now. I was trying to figure out going from a computer's sound card to an amp.

the screen is just a screen lol, i would never buy a crappy headunit like everyone else buys. I relocated my headunit down by my cupholders so that way i still have radio if i want and also a cd player for if a friend brings a cd or something. also makes for quick volume adjustment

Unfortunately, I might be stuck with a headunit setup since I don't have the room on my console for anything else. I guess if I just went extreme on it, relocated my climate controls and such I could do it. However, the retractable touch screen on short-circuit.com seemed pretty kickass if I could find a way to wire in my PC's sound with no head unit.

and that is the nice part about the 6th gens is i was able to use the top double din for the screen and relocate the cd player to the cup holder area so i can still maintain the cd changer and FM radio and quick volume adjustment. Its like it was meant for a car pc lol
