new subs
i just put two brand new rockford fosgate punch p1 10s, with a 200 watt amp because i had one laying around. i am getting a rockford 600 watt in a couple of days. but even with that 200 it slams so hard i can barley breathe it weird i dont get it. my friend put them in his car with a 1200 watt amp and they didnt hit as hard as in my car it was pretty weird but i am happy because i got them for $200 brand new and i am only paying 50 for the amp brand new here is a pic of my setup right now.

the sound of the subs is mostly in the box you put them in and the amount of space and air they have to displace. Your friends amp proboly said 1200 watts, but wasnt putting out near that, dont believe what the amps say on them, read the specs on it. If you like the way your stuff sounds, then i wouldnt mess with it, you know, if its not broke dont fix it
ok my system stopped working for like two days because the amp wouldnt turn on but my power wire and remote both had power and my ground was grounded. but today it started working but only when i start my car and only like half capacity. i am gonna get a 6 gauge power wire. but do i need a new battery also?
congrats on the purchase, i had a set of p2's and loved them. hooking them up to that big of an amp wont even help, i thought they were only rated ( the p1's) at 200 watts max? i may be mistaken though. what size power wire are you running right now? i was fine running on an 8 gauge wire, i had them for just over a year. and for the battery situation, i wouldnt worry about getting a different battery unless you start running more power, just keep the car running if the subs are on. but, im not going to tell you how to build your system so go have fun and experiment with things and see what you can learn. -Jake
You don't want to to choose your amp based on MAX power!!!!!! You need to look at your RMS power rating on the subs and RMS power rating on whichever amp you go with!!!! Also for testing your friends amp what was the ohm load you were testing on? Different amps will put out there RMS power at different Ohm loads. You need to know this stuff before buying equipment. Also if you are going to be running over 600 watts RMS I would step up to 4ga wire over 8ga. Its not much more and it gives you the ability to run an additional amp down the road or a larger one.
sillyredcivic basically said it. you need to look up the specs of your amp and i'm assuming thats 200 watts rms not max which still i wouldnt think of as enough but i dont know anything about your kind of subs. i have a 1800 watt rms amp pushing 1 ohm stable to my 3 10's but thats what they need. look up your subs or take them to a dealer that sells them to ask about the specs on what you should be pushing and what they can handle so you dont blow the subs or the amp.
