no security system on civic?
i was planning to look at a 97 civic ex and everything is stock except for the rims i think. If i plan to buy it im wondering if its ok to not have a security/anti theft system on my car? i know civics are one of the most stolen cars but im in irvine and I'm only going to be only using it mainly for commute to school.
If I need a security system is it ok if I only get a viper alarm?
thanks and sorry if i posted in wrong section.

Most Civics and cars alike dont have them unless someone paid to put one in. I plan on doing that with my Integra. My 99 EX has keyless entry, which has an OEM alarm in it. However, it is pretty pointless as it will only go off if the doors are opened, or if the trunk is opened. I think it was a factory option when the cars were new.

Kill switches are quite effective to prevent theft. It only costs a few dollars and there are no annoying false alarms. What it does is prevent the engine from getting any fuel unless you know where the hidden switch is and turn it on. The sound of a car cranking but not starting attracts a lot of attention.
